My Transition From Swim Shorts to Thongs

When I got back into swimming a few years ago I started with swim shorts. As I got more serious I switched to red Speedos, they felt great and gave a noticeble reduction in drag and increase in freedom of movement. I absolutely loved the look, feel and fabric of the small trunks, and my body on show that and wanted to go smaller, so switched to lower-cut shiny black Adidas 3-stripe trunks, then an even lower pair of Kiniki microtrunks.
Wanting to show more I got a little red Kiniki Cuba tanga with a small half-back and very thin side straps that shows a lot of bare bum. With body hair trimmed in preparation, the first time walking out of the changing room in a half-bare tanga at the pool was quite nerve-wracking, I felt so exposed and worried I'd be asked to leave, but also a thrill at being on show and pushing through the anxiety. People did look twice but no problems. The anxiety lessened a little with each subsequent tanga swim, my confidence and enjoyment grew, the tanga was another step forward in comfort and freedom of movement too.
Having taken pool trunks to the limit of acceptability the next step was full bare bum in public at the beach. I bought a little Kiniki Mono swimsuit, the bulging front covers only my genitals, the back is just a two-inch-deep band leaving my bum completely bare. Wearing my thong swimsuit in public for the first time was quite an experience, I felt such a thrill and rush and sense of freedom, combined with feeling very nervous and exposed, and a sense that everyone was looking at me. Then I started to feel more confident, and enjoyed the warm sun on my body and the optimum comfort and freedom of swimming in a thong.
My confidence built through more beach thonging, sunbathing in a park in London and thong pool swimming in Las Vegas. I took up outdoor swimming during lockdown, almost always wearing a thong. The rush from cold-water swimming (sometimes in a part-iced-over loch) is amazing.
Reactions have varied from not caring, through to compliments, "Wow look at this guy!" or surprise "Ooh a bum!" to laughing and pointing. I was initially rather unsettled by the negative people, then I realised the fear of a hostile reaction produces such an exciting thrill, that their negativity is my gain. From feeling embarrased and exposed having my bare bum on show, I now enjoy people looking at my bare butt and seeing the results of all those squats and kettlebell swings. Additionally, pushing through the fear of wearing revealing swimsuits in public and winter outdoor swimming have combined to give me quite a confidence boost.
I now have over a dozen swim thongs and tangas, mostly Kiniki but some Clothes to Pose too. I now mostly wear tangas in the pool and thongs swimming outdoors, falling back to Adidas or cheeky Brazil briefs when I feel uncertain. I do want to push myself further to always go full bare in a thong for non-pool swimming.
