When I got back into swimming a few years ago I started with swim shorts. As I got more serious I switched to red Speedos, they felt great and gave a noticeble reduction in drag and increase in freedom of movement. I absolutely loved the look, feel and fabric of the small trunks, and my body on show that and wanted to go smaller, so switched to lower-cut shiny black Adidas 3-stripe trunks, then an even lower pair of Kiniki microtrunks.
Wanting to show more I got a little red Kiniki Cuba tanga with a small half-back and very thin side straps that shows a lot of bare bum. With body hair trimmed in preparation, the first time walking out of the changing room in a half-bare tanga at the pool was quite nerve-wracking, I felt so exposed and worried I'd be asked to leave, but also a thrill at being on show and pushing through the anxiety. People did look twice but no problems. The anxiety lessened a little with each subsequent tanga swim, my confidence and enjoyment grew, the tanga was another step forward in comfort and freedom of movement too.
Having taken pool trunks to the limit of acceptability the next step was full bare bum in public at the beach. I bought a little Kiniki Mono swimsuit, the bulging front covers only my genitals, the back is just a two-inch-deep band leaving my bum completely bare. Wearing my thong swimsuit in public for the first time was quite an experience, I felt such a thrill and rush and sense of freedom, combined with feeling very nervous and exposed, and a sense that everyone was looking at me. Then I started to feel more confident, and enjoyed the warm sun on my body and the optimum comfort and freedom of swimming in a thong.
My confidence built through more beach thonging, sunbathing in a park in London and thong pool swimming in Las Vegas. I took up outdoor swimming during lockdown, almost always wearing a thong. The rush from cold-water swimming (sometimes in a part-iced-over loch) is amazing.
Reactions have varied from not caring, through to compliments, "Wow look at this guy!" or surprise "Ooh a bum!" to laughing and pointing. I was initially rather unsettled by the negative people, then I realised the fear of a hostile reaction produces such an exciting thrill, that their negativity is my gain. From feeling embarrased and exposed having my bare bum on show, I now enjoy people looking at my bare butt and seeing the results of all those squats and kettlebell swings. Additionally, pushing through the fear of wearing revealing swimsuits in public and winter outdoor swimming have combined to give me quite a confidence boost.
I now have over a dozen swim thongs and tangas, mostly Kiniki but some Clothes to Pose too. I now mostly wear tangas in the pool and thongs swimming outdoors, falling back to Adidas or cheeky Brazil briefs when I feel uncertain. I do want to push myself further to always go full bare in a thong for non-pool swimming.

Welcome to the forum. What a great account of how you graduated from swim shorts to thongs and in doing so increased your confidence along the way. Seems like Kiniki played a major part in your swimwear journey, as it did mine. I also had a Kiniki Cuba Tanga(white), but I felt the pouch was too restrictive so I gave it to a friend having never worn it.ThongCutie wrote: Fri Mar 31, 2023 5:19 pm When I got back into swimming a few years ago I started with swim shorts. Look forward to hearing more of your experiences.

The pouch is very restrictive on the Cuba . I think the best way to wear it is to pull the front really pretty much all the way down and to use it like a micro pouch . I am going to a hotel in Spain shortly where I have 4 uses of the spa pool only included . So my choice of swimwear I have got to get right unless it’s a waste . Off my own patch I want to be fairly daring . I will probably take a couple of choices only down to the spa pool locker room . Probably my kiniki Andre in yellow which is pretty brief on . But my other idea was a cuba tanga which will take more nerve .

The Cuba tanga works back-to-front if you want more front space/coverage, and less back coverage too.

I did try reversing it as you suggest, but it just looked weird to me(lol). I have a few Kiniki swim tangas that don't have that problem with the pouch, but several others that are similar to the Cuba. I found the same problem with one of their underwear tangas which I think was called Kelly. Pouch was very restrictive and squished the contents.ThongCutie wrote: Sun Apr 02, 2023 7:22 am The Cuba tanga works back-to-front if you want more front space/coverage, and less back coverage too.

Congratulations on your encoring to wear your thongs, and definitely you are right, somethings, people don't really care and if they do, they need to find something else to do.
I wear thongs too and wear them often, gave me the confident to do it more and more, I had a negative review only onces.

You soon stop feeling self conscious. If you 'normalise' the wearing of thongs and g-strings, you feel more confident and it shows. I often get compliments on my outfits and bubble bottom.

Re: My Transition From Swim Shorts to Thongs
I've hit a milestone. For the past 2 years I've always worn a thong-back swimsuit for beach/loch swimming. (The exception being some cold-water swims where I wear my wetsuit for most of the swim then strip down to a thong for an exhilarating few minutes of cold dip). I feel great that I've pushed through the discomfort and anxiety to habitually swim outdoors in a tiny swimsuit that shows my bare bum.
Regular swimming in a thong has really moved my swimsuit preference away from my previously-loved Speedos. While the popular low-waist Speedo Solar type are certainly practical for the active/competitive swimmer, the half-bare-back tanga/Brazil styles are significantly better, however the best active swimsuit design leaves the buttocks completely bare for optimum comfort, practicality and freedom of movement. My go-to outdoor swimsuit is now the Kiniki St Tropez thong.
My pool unfortunately does not allow thong swimsuits, instead I always wear half-back tangas for indoor swimming. The colourful Kiniki tan-through tangas are nice, however I prefer the smaller solid-colour Cuba. Both designs are very comfortable and practical and in spite of their minimal design I can rely on them to stay on securely when doing tumble turns.
I've found Kiniki to be pretty good for durability. I replaced my red Kiniki Cuba tanga after about 5 years of regular use, the rest are still giving good service. I'm very surprised they've discontinued the Cuba and St Tropez ranges.
Wearing tiny swimsuits does mean I need to trim regularly - Philips Bodygroom trimmer is pretty efficient. Knowing people will be looking at my bare butt is a good incentive to work steadily at the deadlifts and squats.
