My wife and I took a trip to Jamaica this past winter and I thought I would surprise her and do something she wouldn't expect me to do and that was wear a thong. The ones I bought weren't the most practical ones, but I wore them around and kinda liked the free feeling. So I investigated other brands and found the ones I really like. They are so much more comfortable and when I start sweating while working outside or something, they don't weigh me down with wet cloth like the old boxer briefs used to. I will never go back to wearing anything else.

I first saw thongs in a photo in one of the teen girl magazines that all the girls read in early high school. Us guys used to read their copies out of interest as to what was in them. The photo was a very young Elle McPherson from behind, lifting herself out of a pool in a yellow thong  I was hooked in that instant, thinking 'I wish they made them for guys'. I was already into the smallest briefs I could find - that started at a very young age, but I don't remember why except I loved the freedom. I was one of the few guys who always stuck with swim briefs while everyone else wore nothing but boardshorts. Luckily my mother was on board with buying me thin sided styles even when I was young.

I don't really remember how I found out that men's thongs were a thing, but the first ones I ever saw for sale where in a body building gym that had a small retail shopfront. They had them in the window, and I had to work out how I was going to be game enough to buy them. I was 17.
A few days later, after agonizing about it, I walked in when it was quiet, and bought one pair of black very thin sided briefs, and one black thong in the same style. These were the body building 'poser' suits used in competition. The guy behind the counter asked if I was into body building (I clearly wasn't, but had a very athletic lean physique due to being a very committed surfer). I said no, but found it difficult to buy smaller briefs anywhere in conventional clothing or swimwear stores. He was really cool about it, but I was nervous as hell.

After this, thongs became a big trend in Australia. Soon after you could buy them in every store that stocked men's underwear, and some swimwear stores as well. My collection grew very quickly, and within a year I was wearing nothing but thongs.

Nothing has changed ;)

I had known there were thongs for guys but thought they were for body builders until I stumbled upon some jockey thongs on Amazon and realized how many thongs there were for guys

I was similar that I knew they existed for women, and pretty much figured they had men’s thongs too. In my teenage years I was more into the speedo/briefs swimsuits before getting into the smaller underwear. I’d wear the swimsuits in the backyard to swim and tan. Then one summer, when I was 17, I was in Hawaii with my parents and was in a local department store there. I saw a rack of brief style swimsuits and started looking through it. Came across a whole section of thongs. I was totally intrigued and got one. Ended up loving it and never looked back. Wasn’t long after that when I fully converted to thongs for underwear too.

I had a similar experience here in London! Growing up, I just assumed thongs were a women’s thing - until one day, curiosity got the better of me, and I nervously typed “men’s thong” into the search bar. And suddenly, there it was - a whole world I never knew existed!

The real shocker? They weren’t just some exclusive, hard-to-find item. Nope, even high-street stores had them. I remember walking into a shop, trying to look casual while secretly scanning every underwear rack. When I finally spotted them, I had this moment - like I had just unlocked a hidden level in a game.

Of course, buying one was another challenge. I hesitated, circled the aisle a few times, and finally grabbed one like I was defusing a bomb. The checkout? Pure adrenaline. But once I tried it on, there was no going back!

Did you buy yours straight away, or did it take a few attempts to work up the nerve?

I took several times to work up the nerve to actually buy one. I tried to go to stores where I was sure nobody (worker or shopper) would know me. Looking back, I'm not sure why I was so nervous. I've been a full-time thong wearer for 25+ years now.

I totally remember that adrenaline! Lmao I bought other random stuff like I didn’t go to the store SPECIFICALLY for thongs. Stalked the lines to select the least judgmental looking person and stacked all the other stuff on top of the pack 😂

I bought mine straight away. Definitely was a bit nerve wracking and thrilling all at the same time but I didn’t have time to hesitate and also didn’t want to miss my chance to buy one. So just picked out the color I wanted and walked right up to the register.

As long as I can remember I was into small swimwear. Always looking for sexy small bikini's with narrow sides. Every new suit I bought was a little smaller then the ones I already had. In the 1990's, when internet became mainstream, I found Dore's website Beach'ndanc. She made minimal men's swimwear. I gave it a try and bought a 'moderate cut thong' from her. What a thrill putting on a thong for the first time! From that moment on I became a thong fan. I bought about 10 of her thongs over the years. When I discovered Muscleskins I liked their poser thong very much and since then I only ordered from Muscleskins. The fit of the posers I found very comfortable. Unfortunately I had an issue with an order of 4 posers; the center strap was about one inch longer then it used to be. The fit was completely different, which I didn't like and stopped ordering from them. In the mean-time I ordered a bravura thong from Skinzwear, which is a very comfy thong, but it has somewhat wider sides compared to the Muscleskins thongs. Few years later I found iSwim's website. They have a hughe collection of all sorts of minimal swimwear. I tried one of their thongs and was very happy with it. I have about 20 of their suits now. Very sexy, comfortable fit and thin fabrics. I'm a thong wearer for ever! :D
