I grew up with briefs, Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. Usually white but sometimes with cartoon prints. When I was 8 or so my mom bought me some boxers to see if I liked them but I didn’t. And when I was about 10 I got a pair of boxer briefs. They were OK but I liked briefs better.

So what did you guys grow up with?

I grew up wearing briefs; Hanes, FTL, or similar - mostly in white occasionally a pack in color. Fast forward to middle school (11-13) I had to change for gym glass and thought boxers were more "grown up" since that is what my dad wore. Even though I had wanted to try the bikinis I saw in the Sears/JCPenney catalog - - Before 8th grade (age 13) I asked my mom to buy me some string bikinis from K-Mart - they were animal print and I loved them, I wore them until I outgrew them.

As a child I had no say in my underwear choice. My mother was the one who made those decisions. As a result I was stuck with the basic white brief. I hated them. As soon as I had my own money (age 14, from working the farms) I bought a couple three packs of bikini underwear. My mother had a fit. She viewed men’s bikini underwear as inappropriate and improper. I don’t care about her opinion. I knew it was right for me and a Hell of a lot more comfortable than those baggy ill fitting briefs.

My story was very similar to yours. Basic white Hanes or Jockey briefs until I finally had my own money to buy clothes and I tried Munsingwear and Hanes colored briefs and then some bikinis from Sears. Mom didn't like them, but couldn't argue since I spent my own money on them. My dad didn't like anything but white briefs. His were always saggy and baggy in the butt and I hated them.

White store brand briefs that Mom bought. Some FTL white briefs in high school. When I bought my own underwear, it was colored briefs and bikinis.

My mom used to make those decisions, even my dad worn white brief.
When I was 15 (2005) for my birthday they took me to buy clothes and I picked some tanga brief sport and bikinis, I love them, neither of my parents like them, specially my dad, but I love them.

I wore tightie whities (Y-fronts) until I was 14. One day I was at K-Mart with my mom and we were shopping for socks and underwear in the men's clothing section and out of the blue, she just asked me if I wanted to try wearing bikinis. I jumped at the opportunity and said "yes" I knew I wouldn't have that opportunity opened to me again until I was an adult.

A few month earlier she found a bikini panty that I had found and had been wearing. I told her that I thought they were men's underwear.

Pretty much tighty whities until I was 18 when I started to buy my own underwear. I did envy the guys who wore bikini underwear when I was a teenager.

Then I switched to boxer briefs and boxers, which I wore for the most part until fairly recently. Now I'm back to briefs (though not white) and bikini underwear. I do have a few thongs, but I rarely wear those. I keep my old boxers for sleeping with a t-shirt.

Depends on "kid," I think. I started wearing bikini briefs exclusively starting at the beginning of high school, 9th grade. Late 1980s...

I wore the white FTLs and Hanes throughout until about age 22. My mom only bought white briefs. I did have white ribbed FTL briefs in high school.
