When I was a teenager (awhile ago), I was a decent competitive swimmer - could swim a sub-one minute 100 yard free and about a 1:03 butterfly (decent, but not great, for highschool). Plus I swam in a competitive summer league. Consequently, I grew up with literal Speedos - and was very familiar with girls in racing tanks - at least with looking at them!
So, quite a few years later, I kinda still feel I've earned the swim bikini. At the town pool, I'll be sure to swim some laps to demonstrate my competence. Anyone also?
Any current competitive swimmers? (or past competitive swimmers)?
Re: Any current competitive swimmers? (or past competitive swimmers)?
I am. I didn't swim competitively in my youth though. I got into it as an adult in my 30s about 7 or 8 years ago and do Masters swimming now. Freestyle is my strongest stroke but the sub-minute 100yd free has been elusive so far. I've come close to it in meets, like 1:05/100yds. I also enjoy open water swimming and have done up to 2.4 miles. I made the leap from jammer to swim briefs when I started getting serious about my swimming. My first brief was a Speedo Endurance +. It was all black with about 4 inch sides. Since that first speedo I've never gone back to a jammer.

I’m also a swimmer - I do competitive meets in the summer time.

I wish I had tried for. The swim team in hs, didn't think I was good enough, but did find that I liked swimming for pe class much better than the general team sport pe they used to give(was never really good at any ball sports). On a whole I wish I'd have done more sports/activities during school instead of just skipping class

I worked out in the pool this morning. I’m so amazed how many people do laps in dork shorts.

That always amazes me too! I see this at every pool I've swam at. It kills me to see these guys struggling up and down the lane with a parachute dragging them down. Maybe they like the extra resistance it gives them, but I think they are really just afraid of brief swimwear and what their friends, wife, GF, etc., might think if they wore them. And that even in a setting where briefs are perfectly acceptable!Thongwearer wrote: Wed Nov 22, 2023 11:49 am I worked out in the pool this morning. I got to know a guy earlier this year swimming at my YMCA pool who was training for a triathlon. Yes he was swimming in baggy shorts. I coached him a little on his freestyle technique which helped him quite a bit, but one of the first things I said to him was to get some real swimwear. I had an old Speedo jammer which was still in good condition. Since we were the same size I gave him the jammer and he was amazed how much better he could move in the water. I encouraged him to get a swim brief, but he never did as far as I know.
