Although promo films had been around for some time, it wasn't until MTV appeared that music videos became commonplace and bands who weren't available to play in a TV studio would send a lavish video of their latest song. I'm sure forum members will come up with vids I've long forgotten, but the first ones that I thought of were back in the early 80's. Duran Duran made several videos around the time of their Rio album which showed them wearing string bikinis in exotic places, and Wham's song Club Tropicana featured George Michael in a white speedo.

There were a couple with MC Hammer. I can't remember either song exactly, but one where he was in a print bikini-cut speedo swimsuit (I think it was leopard) at a pool and then another one where he was getting out of bed wearing string bikini undies,..

Not surprised the video was banned,but at least he didn't hide behind dork shorts. Don't think the "song" would be winning any music awards either.

Olivia Newton John's Physical video has a group of muscular guys wearing bikinis, and The Weather Girls' It's Raining Men has male dancers wearing speedos. I guess the 80's was the decade when the tables were turned and women got to enjoy scantily clad male eye candy for a change.

"Slow" from Kylie Minogue has lot of guys wearing speedo around her.
