Adult Store as Underwear Shop?

Post by RespectTheKini »

While not yet being able to do so myself, for I guess, trying to be well informed before I ever do go . . . has anyone here ever tried or had any luck with going to an adult shop FOR the underwear selection? I assume it's of varying result but It seems like it'd be a place with constant skimpier mens undergarment selection. Find any quality pieces or moreso novelty no good stuff?

I have a couple in my area that I'd be down to give a visit eventually for this purpose. Could some shops have good stuff?

Have you checked to see if these adult shops have a website displaying their merchandise? If so, that would at least give you a good idea of what to expect when you walk through the door. Obviously you could order from them online if that is an option, but it sounds like you want to experience the buzz of seeing and possibly trying on the garments in person.
Another possible avenue is seeing if a ladies lingerie shop has a section for men's skimpy undies. If you have a wife or girlfriend they could probably tell you if there are thongs and G-strings specifically for men within these stores and perhaps you could go together and pick out some skimpy pieces for each other. Let us know how you get on.

Adult stores that carry men's underwear usually only have a very small selection and usually their prices are marked up very high!
And their colors are very limited too, usually black, red, metallic gold or silver and sometimes white.

I tried a couple of such stores about ten years ago when the chain stores had stopped selling g-strings. They were not too bad for women's g-strings, but the men's section in both was woeful, in terms of styles, colours and sizes. Try your local ones, you never know, and you'd be supporting local business, but don't be too surprised if there isn't much. I've never bothered again now with online purchasing.

There are several adult products stores in Denver that carry underwear. Most of it is Andrew Christian and is pretty pricey.

There are several stores on Arenas in Palm Springs that sell underwear. Gay Mart has a huge selection.

"Gay Mart"?
And we can't understand why the world persecutes us as gays and sissies for our choices in undergarments?!?

Had no idea what Gay Mart was, but I was curious to find out why it caused just some dude to have a tiz. I searched online and discovered it is an actual store which carries a large selection of swimwear and underwear as well as other merchandise that is aimed at a certain clientele. My guess is that the choice of name would not only reassure customers that they were in a safe environment and free from homophobic abuse as they shopped, but also a heads up to the hetero community that they might stock items that wouldn’t likely be on their shopping list. Having said that, I would imagine that they have a fair amount of straight customers /allies, who are sufficiently confident in their sexuality to shop there for swimwear/underwear without worrying that they may, heaven forbid, be wrongly labelled as gay. After all, you don’t always go into a coffee shop to drink the coffee!

Don't know what a "tiz" is, but I'm pretty sure you just had one.

If you don't know what it means then how can you recognize it? lol. The reason I posted my comment was due to your sarcastic and OTT reaction to the word gay in that particular shop's name. Any follower of this forum and blog will be well aware that you are a straight guy who has been married twice and been with several other women, and I dare say anyone who knows you personally won't think you're gay or a sissy even if they're aware you wear women's underwear( for sizing reasons).
This blog prides itself on being open to all no matter their sexuality, and is a place where phobic comments of any nature are not welcome. All we ask is that contributors think before they press send.

Tanga Tanga, in turn, I think you are treating this topic too lightly. Being seen as gay is a big deal for a lot of us, and it has been mentioned quite a few times throughout this forum. At the least, it is that the styles we wear are seen as "gay men's panties" or similar, and at worst, it is that the men who wear such items must be gay. This is one of the problems raised as stumbling blocks here to wearing skimpy underwear and swimwear. Nate has more than once said that having his wife and kids along while wearing skimpy swimwear makes it a lot more comfortable for him. He's not the only one on here saying that.

Nor is this simply a perceived issue. Think of Jordan, the Frenchman, who said he was touched while trying on a thong in a menswear store. Now it could have been simply to check the fit of the garment while he was erect, but it could have been more. Either way, he was not comfortable with it. There was also the one (I can't find the post, but I know you responded to it) who received derogatory comments from teenagers riding past while wearing skimpy swimwear, and was upset at that.

I agree with you that in relation to a store called something like "Gay Mart", we have been given enough warning about what it would be like, and I'd have no trouble avoiding such a store. But the issue is not that we are not comfortable with our sexuality. It's more that others can see us as something we are not, and that, however wrong it might be, is the situation that we (I mean all men, not just us on the forum) have to face when wearing the skimpy underwear that I happen to find comfortable and should have no trouble wearing.
