Men's Running Briefs

Post by mrrigid »

There's another category of men's clothes that some guys love and some people criticize - minimal running briefs. Target of jokes, (do you watch 'The Neighborhood'?) they can also make the man wearing them feel great, look sharp and actually improve his athletic performance (well, maybe).

An inseam of 2 1/2 inches, or less will get you in the game, and a generous side split will make score more points.

For me, the Game Gear 2 1/2's are wonderfully light and freeing, and mostly family-friendly.

The Soffee Ranger Panties are even briefer - my wife says she can 'see everything' (when they're sweaty).

But my favorites are one's I haven't worn outside yet - the CoverMale CM 190s.

Maybe this year!

Any other runners with a brief interest?

The cover male shorts look amazing, not sure I could wear them though.
I wear a lot of Lululemon shorts, if they come with built in pants I usually cut them out and wear a G-string under them, sometimes I won’t wear anything under them.

Anyone who is old enough to remember middle distance running back in the 1980's will probably remember that British athletes like Steve Ovett, Steve Cram and particularly Sebastian Coe( the former 800 metre world record holder) wore tiny shorts with large splits up both sides which probably were less restrictive than regular shorts when striding round an athletics track. They are something of a rarity nowadays but occasionally I see guys wearing them while they are running out on the pavements or roads.
The Cover Male shorts that you provided a link for are cut so high that only a G-string or narrow sided thong could be worn underneath and not be seen below the waistband. Don't think going commando would be a good idea, particularly if you were wearing them outside, because you would run the risk of spilling out of them especially if you were jogging. Would be an interesting addition to your wardrobe and would certainly make your legs appear longer than they are.

Actually jogging at the beach might be the best way to try them out - they'd look most 'normal' there. Not sure about spilling!

Oh, and did I mention they also come in sheer?

I have a pair of prevail sport running shorts, they look like the cover male ones you have listed. I have only worn them around the house , a little to shy to wear them out running or working out .

My running shorts, most with a 2" inseam, do have an inner brief. They're OK for the most part, except the ones from B.O.A. While I love their shorts and designs, I hate their inner briefs. They look and feel more like grandma panties.

although I don't run much lately, I used to a decade ago, the few running shorts with a liner I own (I prefer just regular gum shorts without a liner) I either cut out the liner or never wear.

IMO they are rarely as supportive as real briefs, they are vaguely supportive i.e. too loose. I sometimes prefer briefs when running but other times no underwear so I will put on regular briefs instead, then I can control how supportive/tight they are.

maybe I'll have to try the ones in the links above to see how they truly are....do the 3rd ones have a liner?

Yikes! I've worn the Soffee Ranger Panties and they're OK by me. I like wearing shorter shorts (about 2" inseams on mine), but those CoverMale is where I draw the line. Way too revealing for my taste.

My favorite running shorts are the ones made by American Jock....they come in several colors and sizes for around $29, have a 1.5-inch inseam (they're old-school short!) and are unlined....really comfortable to wear and provide great freedom of movement. Check them out here: https://whiteytighties.com/american-joc ... ing-short/

When I used to go running I wore long tight red Adidas Techfit shorts: https://eggcatcher.com/clothing/baselay ... tight-red/ or shorter tight Nike shorts: https://www.nike.com/gb/t/pro-365-13cm- ... CZ9831-010

I'd often do at least part of the run in shorts only, with T-shirt/hoodie tucked into a waistband bag. I really preferred the comfort and freedom of running shirtless. On frosty days the cold on my bare chest and back felt great, and the cold also motivated me to run faster to keep warm.
