Are bikinis, thongs and g-strings dying off with older generations?

So, today I turned 50, and the thought came to me that the average age of the men in this forum that enjoy wearing bikinis, thongs and g-strings is mid to late 50s.

Just curious as to how many men in this forum are actually under the age of 40? It seems to me that the older generations are the ones that are buying and wearing non-conventional underwear. When our generations die off, will sexy men's underwear & swimwear be extinct with us?

Interesting topic. Perhaps Nate could do one of his polls/survey on the average age of the TBD followers. It's easier to gauge the age range of speedo wearers than it is with underwear for the obvious reason that they are more visible. I would definitely say that older guys do seem to be flying the flag for speedos more than the younger generation, and not just on the beaches. I've noticed lots of older guys on sites like Instagram posting pics wearing speedos and bikinis. Given the limited availability of skimpy underwear in the bricks and mortar shops, it could be said that once our generation have passed, there will be fewer guys to champion the cause, but hopefully, by then, the online market will have found new ways to entice the younger generation to ditch the boring stuff for the styles we knew and loved!

Was looking back to see if I had anything like that and I never asked age. Just how long they having worn bikinis or thongs. I made a note to try and do a survey or poll and include it. I've interacted with a range of ages into wearing or starting to get into bikinis and thongs. I think as we get older we start not caring what other people think or at least less, so I think that is part of the reason we normally see more mature guys sporting the swim briefs and less.

I don't think sexy underwear and swimwear will become extinct, but more a chance of a potential decrease in the selection we have now. Though still seems like the options out there are growing to me. Also seems to a good range of ages buying it. Of course there is still work to be done spreading the word that sexy skimpy underwear/swimwear is for guys too.

Happy belated Birthday. I turned 40 this year and have been wearing (string)bikinis since I was in middle school, first thong was when I was 19. I stopped wearing thongs for many years, but since adding them back to my underwear drawer I wear them 4 or more days a week. It is a bit more difficult to make purchases, since I can't go to the brick and mortar store and feel the material or see how the tail is made. With the internet I can shop multiple brands on a single site or read reviews to make a more informed decision about the ones I buy. I also follow several IG accounts (their ages range from mid 20s to 50+) to get opinions and see how brands fit; I will ask their opinion and hope they are honest. I don't see bikini options at the local big box stores like when I was younger, but that doesn't mean the younger generation won't embrace thongs/bikinis. I know at some point my (less than 2 year old) son will see my bikinis or thongs and ask what they are and I'll tell him; if he wants to try them I'll find some that fit when it is age appropriate. I'm a very shy/modest person, so I don't walk around in my underwear so it may be a while before he sees them.

I'm in my sixties, but wearing string bikinis is easy for me as it is what I grew up wearing from mid-teens onward. Admittedly the internet purchases are a bit smaller than the chain-store purchases of earlier years. The move for me into g-strings just happened when they became available a couple of decades ago in the chain-stores, and then internet purchases once they became unavailable just a few years later (great progress that was :?).

I'm not sure these styles will die out, as internet availability makes it so easy to obtain them. What's more likely is that our favourite brands may cease - we've already seen some fold here in recent times and I suspect one of my favourites (GroovinStore in Singapore) is on the way out. Other's have changed their lines quite markedly recently. Kiniki dropped most of their g-string styles last year, and a recent visit to CoverMale showed their styles have reduced in number and differ quite markedly to those of five years ago.

So I think it's more whether sufficient will be sold to younger buyers to make it worthwhile producing these styles at reasonable prices. Time will tell, but I hope they continue to be available.

Somehow, but not sure because my grandpa love to wear the bikini underwear so I don't think so they are dying off but I must says that time are change.

I’m 31 years old and I think the big fashion brands that make men underwear determinate what is popular and acceptable, whenever they pull brief and bikinis out of the market the rest of the brands did the same and since them we never saw bikini brief or tangas at the stores. And that doesn’t help to see them as a regular underwear and men feel embarrassed if they wear something skimpy.
Luckily internet opened the horizon for those like us to have that underwear/swimwear available and for those are curious to try them on.
So I don’t think is really dying with us, I think society make men feel embarrassed about them and they don’t wear them that normally like in the 90s for example.
In the movie “the birdcage” looks like in Miami was normal wear thong or bikini at the beach regardless your sexuality.
So Wear them proudly and act normal on it share confidence.

I certainly hope not! The trends seem to be heading more towards the tighter compression shorts and boxer briefs styles for underwear. I'm 35 and was teased for wearing briefs when baggy boxers were the cool underwear. I will say that at least with swimwear the last summer the board shorts seem to be less popular with younger guys and more mid thigh shorts being more prevalent. Still not many swim brief wearers around my parts. But maybe as guys realise that smaller shorts means better tan lines and less drag in the water briefs will make a resurgence!
