A question for us larger-framed men...

A place to talk about underwear in general that doesn't fit in thongs or bikinis.

A question for us larger-framed men...

Have you ever worn panties when men's bikinis, string-bikinis & thongs were not available in your size?

I have worn women's panties in the past, but only because there were no men's alternatives in my size available for sale at the time. I am a large man and men's clothing/underwear manufacturers generally do not make anything in the way of thongs, bikinis & string bikinis that will fit me. It's very hard to find anything above a 38-40 inch waist. And if you do, you're going to be paying $25+ for ONE brief. That is unacceptable to me and I cannot justify paying that much for one bikini or one thong! And the panties that I wore were not feminine-looking at all, usually neutral colors (black, white, beige, red, etc), no lacy edges, ruffles or bows. I have been to the gym with friends and wore panties in the locker room and they didn't know because I didn't wear feminine-looking underwear.

If you had to choose between boring, mundane boxer shorts, boxer briefs, or big, full-cut Y-front briefs that look like a big diaper OR wearing panties that would pass for men's bikinis, string bikinis and thongs, which would you choose? I would rather wear panties that are passable as men's underwear.

As Cary Grant once pointed out, panties are often the most comfortable choice. They're always soft and lightweight. For some reason men's underwear, even skimpy styles, tend to be made from heavier fabric. My experience is that generally, women do not find this option (a man in panties) particularly alarming.

As someone who is tall and slim, I’ve never been in the position of the larger guys who struggle to find skimpy undies to fit and have to resort to wearing women’s underwear. If that is their only alternative, then they should not be criticised for their choices. My concern would be with guys who are within regular sizes and are spoiled for choice in skimpy men’s undies, but choose women’s. This is NOT a dig at cross dressers or guys with a panty fetish! I only highlight this because every purchase of a female garment is potentially one less for a male underwear manufacturer, and if we all went down that line, many would go out of business. We know from other posts on this blog that several highly regarded companies have gone to the wall, so those that are left really need our support! Once again can I emphasise that these comments are not intended to cause offence to anyone reading them.

Yes I have worn and I still wear women's underwear because of the fact that plus size has not creeped in to the male side of underwear. I buy the more plain type w/out lace or frilly stuff on it. I found some string bikini/tanga type and some thongs in walmart that fit me perfectly in the women's department. They have a high rise to them that I like because I wear my pants at my natural waistline. They have a label on them that say 4-way stretch and they very affordable especially with my economic situation I can afford these more than the online stuff that won't fit me. Even finding pants my size is becoming a problem, so where do I find pants my size, in the women's plus size department. I wore them around family and they only noticed that they were new.
So size and price has brought me to buy some women's clothing/underwear. The fact that I bought 4-5 pairs of for the price of one pair that is online is kind of dismaying. In fact at walmart I found a pair of sweatpants at my size two or three dollars more than a large/xl size. But going into the women's side I can find a pants in my size and at the same price as a regular size pants and they don't up the price for plus size women.
When I was working full time I was buying Calvin's and other name brand underwear, but can't afford them on a part time salary.
Sorry for ranting.
If these companies don't want to lose customers than they have to start appealing to a larger customer base (no pun intended).

I think, that in the case of bigger men who like to wear skimpy styles in underwear and swimwear, if underwear/clothing manufacturers would just start making bikinis and thongs in bigger sizes for us big men, we wouldn't need to wear panties. I honestly don't know why they don't, they are losing out on a bigger market share. I guess they just aren't interested in making money!

I’m always surprised by this as well. Then when you do find a manufacturer who has the sizes they are always sold out, you’d think other companies would notice the trend and jump on the bandwagon.

Here are some potential Options.

1) I have purchase my wife Skims, and the quality, durability, and comfort is pretty good. It's not expensive, but it is not cheap either. The fabric feels really comfortable. Highly recommend skims, and the Fits Everybody line is not too feminine presenting, so it could work if you want a string bikini or a g-string that lacks feminine detail. Great for workouts as well. It looks like they have a lot of size options up into plus sizes.

Skims Fits Everybody String bikini (it does not have as full a back as some bikini's - it's more like a tanga cut).

I tried one of these on once as my wife was getting rid of hers as it did not fit her after a weight fluctuation. A larger size would have fit me, and it would have been comfy (though I don't wear women's underwear).

Fits Everybody T-String Thong (larger front that would be suitable for many - very stretchy).

My wife really likes these as well.

The Micro thong is sexy as hell but waaaay too small in front for those with penises; though, though it's a great present for a partner!

It also looks like they have a cotton String thong; though, I have never purchased one of these for my wife:

2) I have purchased my wife Aerie G-strings and string bikinis, and they are super comfortable. She likes these along with the Skims, and they are great for workouts. She wears smaller sizes but it looks like they have up to size XXL, which should fit as some tend to run one size bigger, so you might size down.

I have purchased these for my wife, and they are very very comfy she says and are more neutral:

They had a string thong mesh version that I purchased some for her that she liked, but I don't see those - Those were super stretchy and could accommodate male anatomy.

IT also looks like they have a cotton version, but no idea about their comfort:

3) I'm about a 39.5" waist, 195, and Men's Doreanse size L and XL fits me - I would opt for XL.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for you review of the Skims thongs. I've been keeping them on my radar since they often have nice sales. I'll pick some up soon.

I have a bunch of the aerie smoothiez thongs and they fit great. My normal size works fine.. In my experience if you size up in womens underwear they end up eing 'baggy' around the crotch area and start to hang out.

Sold out, or you're going to be paying a lot! I find more big & tall options on that Chinese market site, AliExpress... but even lately a lot of the bikinis and thongs I used to order from those vendors are no longer available. Since the whole tariff thing, most of those vendors closed their online stores. Oh well, Jockey still makes tactel panties that I enjoy wearing.
