I was wondering if anyone had any inspirations on the big screen (movies and TV) to where you saw guys or girls wearing bikinis or thongs that really inspired you to wear something similar...these were mine.

Yes!!!!! Absolutely! A forever classic! After that I began to see more men in bikini briefs that caused me to want to wear the smaller ones

Very intresting topic ! My first , very first sight of a man wearing a thong was at a german series, like a light porn, called tutti fruti. It was a tv game where 1 man and 1 women answer some questions and play a few games, but in every wrong question they had to strip one piece of clothes. As you can understand at the end of the episode the two players were just in their undewear. So, during these episodes there were men in thongs ( besides 90s was the golden time of men thonging , in my opinion)..and 90% of women wore a thong also.
I made a research a few years ago and i had found all the episodes in dvd at amazon.
After that, next sights were at european porn movies, mainly germans, of early 90s, were many straight actors wore thongs. There is a topic in another blog where you can see these porn movies and see straight porn guys wearing proudly their thongs.
In Greece at that time, in movies or series men was going commando. seen a man wearing jeans without underwear or sleeping nude was the norm.This image influenced me a lot ! So for many years going commando was super sexy for me, but thats another story..

When I was growing up I went to summer camp (in the 1980s) and the majority of the counselors were European (largely -- UK, Dutch, Spanish) and from South and Central America and they all wore bikini briefs. That certainly seems to have had more of an effect on me (other than my older cousin who insisted that I get bikini briefs the summer before I went to high school) than media. I think the first movie that I remember seeing a notable underwear moment was in the original Terminator movie, when Sarah Hamilton's roommate's boyfriend tried to fight it out with Arnold, while wearing striped bikini briefs and Arnold in his full 1980s Los Angeles-street thug garb.

Reminds me the innocence and carefreeness of these years when everthing were so simple and genuine. I was born in late 70s, so at 1980 was only 3 years old but i lived the good years of early 90s..and as i grown up in a small island province of greece far away from the country capital life was simple, quiet...
