Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Let's start the Bikini Talk section off with when, what brand or kind, and where we got our first bikini?
I finally got my first bikini, which was a package of string bikinis at Kmart. I was 17 when I discovered I could buy them at a local store. Probably been earlier if I discovered that sooner! Can't quite recall the brand. Just remember they had a pretty thick elastic waist band. I do know after my first package, I got brands Hanes and Brut there.

I got my first pairs when starting High School. They came from JC Penney and we’re a brand I called Eminence, I think . What I do remember is they came in a 3 pack and had the words Sports Bag on the box. I was so excited to wear them I couldn’t sleep that night in anticipation of the next day! I still get excited when I’ve ordered new pair online and am expecting them in the mail.

I bought 2 pairs of really skimpy bikini briefs from a mail order catalogue in my late teens. One was red and the other was blue and I remember there was a sticker which said St Tropez on the packaging which I peeled off and stuck onto the front of my first electric guitar, which to this day is still on said guitar although the name has long since rubbed off.
I still have a vivid memory of wearing the red bikini on a night out with three friends/workmates. After a great night we all went back to one guy's house and ended up in the same bed together(to sleep, nothing else)lol. Anyway,as we all got undressed down to our underwear, mine were by far the skimpiest and one of the guys was particularly keen to know where I got them from.
Sadly, the briefs didn't last as long as the sticker, but they definitely set me on my way to greater, skimpier heights(lol).

I do not remember when I acquired my first bikini as underwear. If I know that it was of the Jim brand, now disappeared. For quite some time now.
I continued acquiring more, especially in El Corte Inglés, department store chain in Spain. In addition to Jim were Abanderado, Ferrys, Udy (these two brands are also missing), Tex or Jackerton (own brands Carrefour supermarket), Impetus (Portuguese brand) and Punto Blanco, the only factory that I think continues to manufacture in Spain.

I have toured all the haberdasheries and lingerie of my city looking for bikinis, but I have only found them in one that settled old material at very good prices (€ 2 or € 3) to make room for novelties.
Every time I travel around Spain or abroad, I visit all the underwear stores I find and I always find something after searching the owner among their oldest material.
From the Punto Blanco brand, I have several specimens in different colors, not only in cotton like the ones they make now, but also in nylon.

Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
I discovered bikini briefs when I was 12/13 roughly. I had a friend that kind of encouraged me to get into them but I did already like them before we met I think. I can't exactly remember the name of the brand(s) I bought. I can't exactly remember the style (of the first pair)but I did try a number of different styles right away
They were bikini briefs though. It was so excting to check out the mens underwear section and to finally get home with the pair or pairs and try them on.

This is such a cool story..especially how you took the sticker from the underwear packaging and put it on your guitar

Glad you liked my story. In those days it was quite common for guitarists to have all kinds of stickers on their axes, but I don't think many had a sticker from a bikini brief on the scratch plate.I'm sure a few people over the years asked me about it,but I don't think it ever developed in to a deep conversation.

Welcome to the forum.Always great to hear how it all started from a newcomer to the blog. I too remember the small cardboard boxes with the cellophane window, and if memory serves me correctly, was there not also a drawing of the bikini somewhere on the box which meant you could see if it had string sides, or not, as the case may be? I remember also going in to the larger department stores and there were row upon row of bikini briefs all in tiny boxes. Nowadays the amount of packaging would be frowned upon, but at the time it was fun to walk around and pick up box after box to try and determine which was the skimpiest(lol).bikiniguy wrote: Sun Mar 15, 2020 5:29 pm This is my first post. It's great to discover a like-minded community of bikini brief wearers.
I bought my first bikini when I was 17 when I started earning my own money. Up until that time I recall my mother used to buy all my underwear. This was the early 1980s.
The first bikini I bought was made by HOM. It was burgundy and I remember it came in its own little black cardboard box with a cellophane window in the front so you could see some of the burgundy fabric inside. (I'm pretty sure they were cotton.) A while later I bought another pair in pale (sky) blue fabric. For many years I varied the styles of briefs I wore, sometimes very skimpy, low rise, other times a fuller rise and even occasionally a full Y-front. Now I only ever wear bikinis with the less fabric the better and the lowest possible rise (though I do prefer a full back, or at least 3/4.)
Thanks for reading.

I remember that too, most handy for a quick inspection so that the box did not have to be opened. This is still done with the Groovin Store bikinis, which come a small box with window and line drawing. These are for their store, but this is how they post them as well. Yet many other companies have disposed of packaging entirely, just posting the "raw" garment in the post packet. Next step - why not just put a stamp and air-mail sticker on the item and post as is.was there not also a drawing of the bikini somewhere on the box which meant you could see if it had string sides, or not, as the case may be?

Maybe I'm a bit odd,but your comment about them putting a stamp and sticker on your underwear, rather than sending it in a package, reminded me of a novelty song from the early 70's called " Don't Stick Stickers on my Paper Knickers." You should google it(lol).DownUnder wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2020 2:04 amI remember that too, most handy for a quick inspection so that the box did not have to be opened.
