Possible to buy swimwear for friends as gifts?

Just wanna ask,
Is it possible to buy swimwear for a friend as a gift (e.g. birthday gift)?

Normally when I buy swimwear for my friend as a gift:
For male friends - beach/board shorts
For female friends - one piece swimsuit

Hi Patricia !! Welcome to the forum !! why not? a nice swimwear is always a welcome gift...if i was the receiver i would be very pleased and happy to take as a gift a nice swimwear. i would be anticipating to wear your gift in front of you in order to show you my apreciation!!

To me it seems like a very unusual gift unless you know that person likes to swim and know their sizes and style preferences.

I am with jason_greets. I guess it is okay to buy swimwear for friends if you have gone swimming with them before, but if that's not the case, then it seems a bit out of the blue.
