My friends in middle school wore bikinis so I asked my Mom if I could when we went shopping. I could not wait to try them on. I was 11. I showed my Mom and she could tell I loved them. Some parents would be too strict.

New to the board. Erase if it doesn't fit the guidelines. It wasn't a purchase. It was a gift. Here is the story. the names have been changed to protect anonymity.
My sister will be Susan. Her boyfriend will be Thomas and I will be David. It was my junior year of high school. I was 16 years old. Skinny and no muscle but still at that age fit the criteria for bikini briefs being young and NO body fat. Self conscious about my body but not overwhelmed by it either. My sister was a foreign exchange student. I go to visit her on Easter break. I arrive and meet her boyfriend Thomas. We stay in a hotel near the airport and arrive where she is staying the following day. We rest and get up the next day. It's the usual. How is mom. How is dad. How is school etc etc. we plan our day. Then totally unexpected "oh David, Thomas and I got you some new underwear we think you'll like" or something along those lines. She hands me the package. 1 white bikini brief and 1 light blue bikini brief. I was shocked but oh well so be it. I respond. "Oh thank you Susan I will wear them while I'm here". I get ready for the day and try one on. Perfect fit felt AMAZING. Ten times more comfortable than tighty o didn't know I was wearing them and I looked ok in them. Next day Susan says "hey David, Thomas wants to know how you like your new underwear". I say they fit great etc I get home and mom was cool with it. I forgot it was gym day and ended up wearing the blue one. There I am with nothing else on and sticking out due to being in nothing but blue bikini briefs with no where to hide Colored underwear and bikinis at the time was not a thing. "Hey David. Nice underwear". Says my friend who was a star basketball player half teasing half compliment "Thanks Andy". "Where did you get them" " my sister and her boyfriend got them for me". "They look good" then a few more chime in "nice underwear". Huge confidence boost. They could have destroyed me but didn't

Cool story, especially since it was your sister that suggested/bought them. Not to get to personal, where was your sister a foreign exchange student at? I'm wondering if it were European - if bikinis were more accepted and easier to purchase. I can honestly say my brother never bought me underwear, he's older and I wanted to steal some of his friends underwear, but that is a different topic. Also, it was good that your friends didn't try to humiliate you for wearing them.

Brazil. It must have been standard underwear down there. She may have been pushing me out my comfort zone to make me more confident on how I looked it worked. The acceptance and no humiliation in the locker room was huge. My friend was mature and knew me well enough as to where the lines were between playful teasing and harm.

I think my first bikini purchase was a multi-coloured almost effervescent Hom micro bikini in 1976, right after I left school and started making money. It had very very narrow sides and I used it all summer. I wish I had a similar one these days.
It’s funny, but I remember my younger brother seeing them one day in the wash and both he and his girlfriend said they liked them.
Probably the last conversation if had with my brother concerning undies of swimwear.
Theses days I’m wearing swim thongs or something much smaller.

When I started training for triathlons in high school, I purchased my first Speedo at a department store. With all the availability online now, it’s so much easier shopping for swimwear. The only downside is you don’t get to try it on. That may explain the suits in my drawer that don’t fit right and still have the tags on them…
