I have an up coming conference to attend. I took a moment to check out the hotel photos of the pool. It looks inviting. So, I started packing for my 5 day trip. 5 thongs are in the suitcase, one for each day at the pool. I’ve worn thong swimwear at the pools of all my professional conferences for a number of years. Not once have I been asked to change to a different suit or shorts. I’ve had many pleasant conversations with people. A few have asked about my thong and why I wear one. I tell them that thong swimwear is all I own. A few people have asked for photos. Some women have gone back to their rooms to change from a somewhat conservative bikini to a thong. Since I only wear thong suits to my local beach I figure there is no reason to change what I wear when I am at a hotel. Some places like Miami it’s not a big deal to wear a thong. Other places like Kansas City I know I’m push the envelope. No matter, all it takes is being comfortable in yourself and most people seem to not be bothered most of the time.

The fact that you only pack thongs in your suitcase shows how committed you are to sticking to your guns when it comes to wearing what YOU want in pools etc. I'm sure some of us might be tempted to throw a string bikini into the suitcase as a backup just in case a thong isn't deemed acceptable to the establishment you're visiting. Do you genuinely not have other types of swimwear, or do you just tell people that to make them think there's no alternative? Hope you have a great time at your conference and manage to convert some of the inevitable dork short wearing attendees to the cause. :D

I am a committed thing wearer. I wear a thong everyday under my workday suit, under my jeans, under my leggings and as swimwear. I’m sure somewhere buried in a bag somewhere I have a few bikini style swimsuits, but I’d have to go searching for them.

I have two business trips this fall. I can guarantee that there will only be thong swim and underwear packed in my suitcase. I have a few male colleagues that I have joined me pool side. I’ve offered to give them a new thong. Every time I have heard “I don’t have the confidence that you have.” The women on the other hand have either gone back to their room to change or the next year have made sure to pack a thong bikini, telling me if you can wear one I can too. I’ll see what happens on the next two trips. Maybe I won’t be the only man in a thong, but not likely.

I wrongly assumed you were attending conferences as an individual and as such you were meeting strangers who you were unlikely to see again, so to find out you not only wear a thong in front of colleagues but offer to give your male workmates a thong is admirable.I'm surprised none of them have accepted your kind offer and followed your example. Look forward to hearing how it goes.

I was staying at a spa hotel in London for the weekend that had a really nice spa and one evening about 9pm I came out the gym and looked in the spa and noticed it was very empty in fact no one in there so thought it would be a great opportunity to try out my new swim thong so I changed out my gym gear in the locker room put on my thong and went straight to the jacuzzi while in there a woman around 50 came in with 2 girls with her in there 20s the older one was wearing a regular bikini suit but both of the younger ones was both wearing thong swimming bottoms they entered the jacuzzi but couldn’t see I was wearing a thong because I was sat in the water after a while they all went in the sauna and shortly after I did I just casually walked in minding my own business they could clearly see I was wearing a thong this time the younger girls kept laughing to each other I knew they was laughing at me but it didn’t bother me after 5 minutes they got out the 2 girls went in the steam room and the older walked out the spa with a robe on she then came back after 5 minutes and went in steam room with the others within a few minutes after she returned a member of hotel staff came in and opened the sauna door and said she needs to have a word with me she then said that my swimwear is not appropriate for there spa and I would need to cover up or leave I was absolutely fuming I said there are 2 girls in the steam room wearing thongs the same as me and her reply was we haven’t received any complaints obout them when I asked who complained she said I can’t tell you but I know it was the women that walked out because no one else could of even seen me after a brief argument I was told to leave or she was calling the police so really upset I went straight to my room and emailed the main hotel group direct and said I’m going to be staying at your hotel and gave the name of the hotel I was already at and asked is it ok to wear thongs in the spa not saying if I was male or female within 15 minutes I got a reply saying yes it’s perfectly excepting but it must be proper swimwear the next morning I went to the reception and asked to speak to management and told them I’m phoning my solicitor and the press because they have totally embarrassed me and they have discriminated me over my gender

What a horrible experience. Pretty obvious it was the women in the bikini who reported you even though her two younger companions(daughters?)were also wearing thongs. Talk about hypocrisy and double standards. As for the staff member who threatened to call the police if you didn't leave. Can just imagine the reaction of the hard pressed desk sergeant who took the call. "You want us to come and arrest a man for wearing a thong in your spa even though your hotel chain states it's perfectly acceptable to do so?" I hope you did take your story to the press and expose their double standards and discrimination.
Can't wait to read Ralange's reaction to your experience.

I will echo that this situation with the hotel was horrible. I would agree that it was gender discrimination. It’s so sad that there is still this bias about men in anything less than shorts. I hope this experience doesn’t sully your future wearing of a thong.

If you'd been wearing a less revealing speedo or string bikini, I wonder if she would still have complained? I wouldn't have bet against it.

Yeah, I feel a bit uneasy about wearing bikini speedos at hotels in the U.S. because so many of them aren't crazy about them. Next summer I just plan to go to one of those clothing-optional places that are available here in Texas. I won't get nude, but at least I wouldn't look too out of place, get told to cover up, or get unwanted attention, the latter is the last thing I would want. I will try wearing a thong too. I just want to be comfortable because I hate boardshorts. I tried them and did not like them.

I did try to sneak wearing one this summer when I was with some friends by going the first thing in the morning and, to my surprise, one of my roommates also likes wearing bikini swimsuits.

I find it interesting that you have had such negative experiences wearing a Speedo type suit at hotel pools in the USA. I’m also sorry to hear that. Either I am fortunate or lucky as I’ve not had issues with wearing more revealing swimwear anywhere in the USA when staying at a hotel. I travel rather extensively and am in hotels fairly frequently. These days I only pack thong swimwear (except for the states that have legal statutes, such as Utah, against thong wearing, then I bring a rio cut or cheeky) and have not had a problem at a hotel. As a matter of fact I am currently staying at a hotel in Southern California and have been to the pool a few times clad in a thong.

I hope you find your comfort zone with what feels best for you to wear.
