Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?

My first bikini purchase was 20 years ago at TJ Max. It was during my first year in college, I had just turned 18 and was buying my own underwear for the first time. It was a Calvin Klein grey Sports string bikini. I actually still have it and wear it from time to time. It has held up well and is still in decent shape. This purchase started my love of men’s string bikini underwear that evolved to different brands and are one of my favorite underwear styles to date.

Did your CK grey sports string have a narrow white band? or the thick band? If it was the narrow one I have the same pair (in black also) and mine were purchased around 1998 or 1999 and they still wear wonderfully. I've noticed several of us started with almost the same brands/types.

They are the ones with the thick waistband they are all one color grey with Calvin Klein written on the front in white letters. I have some of the other sport brief styles CK came out with in the 2000’s, always wished I had the ones from the ‘90s but I was being in the fad of wearing boxers then.

Mine was in high school -grade 11 or 12. My girlfriend at the time bought it for me, I think it was for my birthday. It was a black JM brand. I recall those two letters imprinted on the bikini. It was the best material I have EVER worn. The material was soft silky, but NOT polyester. It was a size Small and had lots of stretch. It felt absolutely heavenly during excitement time. Oh the rubbing... it brings back sweet memories. The fit was perfect since the rear ONLY covered the rear - sides were open with a string waist. I found CK bikinis to be constricting since they went around the butt and onto your hips.

I tried to find the same material a few years later and ended up buying a brand called Impetus (Made in Portugal). They were NOT the same as JM, no comparison. Man, JM had some nice bikinis back then. I ended up giving my new CK bikinis away since they didn't work for me.

I was 12, when I purchased my very first pairs. At a t-shirt shop next to the grocery store my parents shopped at. They were pairs of string bikinis in animal prints. They were kinda like the Joe Boxer string bikinis. I can't remember the brand but they were my favorites, especially the zebra print.

I 'inherited' a couple pairs of bikini underwear when I was 12 or 13 from someone who'd bought them but didn't want them. When I wore them it made me feel sexy. I used to put on a pair and then climb out of my bedroom window and sit on the roof of our house in hopes someone would see me (though to my knowledge, no one ever did). Beginning of many years of being a bikini exhibitionist!

I have to admit to being a "bikini exhibitionist", also. I walk around in bikini underwear in the morning in the house, (and sometimes even in the garden).
My wife and kids are very used to seeing me like this.

I put my "origin story" in the general underwear talk, but more detailed recollections of what I actually had gotten right as I started 9th grade in 1988...fresh out of the Value City sales bin...there was a blue and white striped Spalding string bikini, a couple of Jordaches, Brittania, Brut, FOTL, and Hang Ten...oh, and a couple of ones with the Playboy emblem on the corner of the front panel. One was gray, another red. A couple others, I am sure, and the collection continued to grow over the years...

You mentioned a lot of good quality underwear that doesn't exist anymore.

Yes, I think I came in at the peak of department store offerings. Still have some diversity in the category, but not nearly as many as there used to be when I could just walk in a department store and buy several different brands and variations on the bikini theme.

As far as my first "higher-end" bikini, I think it was around 2000 or 2001, when I splurged on some internet purchases while in grad school, and I introduced myself to Kiniki, Prevail Sport, and BodyAware. I think BodyAware was technically the first, but I had ordered them so closely together than I can't remember which exactly was which.

I still do the multi-pack Life, Hanes, and Jockey bikinis if for no other reason but to be a part of the "demand" that impels the manufacturers to continue to make bikinis.

My first bikini purchase was in 1978, when I was 16 and in 10th grade. I had just gotten my driver's license and a job earning my own money. I saw a 3-pack of cotton bikinis in the Sears sale flyer. I ordered them by phone and picked them up at the catalog store in our town. I was so nervous! I kept them hidden for a long time. My second purchase was a tube of Jockey Elance bikinis. I kept the tube as a souvenir for a long time.

I think I bought my first pair of bikini underwear around December 2000 when I was about 17 at a Walmart. Not surprisingly, I was both excited and a bit afraid someone else would see me buying it.

Looking back, those were not my favorite kind as the sides were broader than what I would want.
