It seems everyone here got their first thong at a department store. I got my first men's thong at Debenbams when I was 16 years old.
I was able to find a pack of Thomas Nash sports thongs, and they were the only men's thongs I could get at the time.

Two years later, I moved to Canada, and this place was thong heaven. There were a lot of stores that stocked men's thongs. During my first year in Canada, I bought around 30 men's thongs from stores like Winners, The Bay, Simons. Now these stores do not carry men's thongs, so I have to do my shopping online.

Yes , I hardly look in the stores now in the uk . Debenhams used to sell Hom Fredy thongs in a neat little box . In fact I used to enjoy that rush of slight embarrassment in a physical over the counter purchase . Welcome to the forum by the way …

For me, it was the Fruit of the Looms men's thongs that they sold for a short time in the early 2000s. I remember they used to carry them at Target.

I think even younger I was vaguely aware about thongs for men but it seemed like the kind of thing that you wouldn't be able to buy at a normal store. For some reason I always thought it was more for like strippers or bodybuilders.

So my story is that I first found lingerie in my sister's bin, played with that wore it here and there secretly.

Then found men's ESL silk thong in a department store, would go and look at them, feel them, dream about buying some. Then as I was older and able to afford them bought a black silk pair. I wish I still had them! From there it was all secret and private to wear that pair.

Publicly I sought the least material I could find and tried all manner of styles and underwear, bikini briefs, briefs of all styles, boxers, boxer briefs, trunks I tried them all. I remember a satin loin cloth with a kind of hammock that was awesome!

Then I found Aussie Bum jocks, their Cup, their thong, then that led to online shopping, told my wife and here I am today wearing thongs nearly 100%

When I was in junior high school I purchased some different pairs of men's bikini underwear at different times. When I was young I think I was terribly afraid someone outside my family would find out. I really liked it, and yet I think I had some deep embarrassment (pretty normal) and shame about it. I think it was somewhere around then that I realized I really wanted to wear sexy underwear--for myself. I don't think I ever wore them on gym day out of fear of being made fun of. Kids were/are terrible in the junior high/high school years. As time went on, I think bikini's became more acceptable for men, so I was less worried if someone happened to see what I was wearing in the locker room. Sometime around high school I had picked out some string bikinis or thongs at J C Penney or some other department store, and either my mom would not buy them for me and/or she made a negative comment. Oh well, I then went onto Jockey string bikinis into college for a while. I remembered I may have picked up a Wintersilks silk thong or two. In college I was around a more conservative crowd, so mens underwear was never a big topic of conversation. I (and my family) were more liberal yet still strongly connected to a religious and conservative culture that could be a bit at odds with us repressive at times. I think shame was also a part of that experience.

In retrospect, I wish I had talked to my older cousin more about my love of underwear. She was super liberal, and introduced me to all sorts of ideas, music, culture, and movies, and was like an older sibling. It would not have phased her at all, and she probably would have loved to take me underwear shopping! Hindsight is always 20/20...

Moving on...

I think I tried some Target thongs briefly in the early 2000's, but I did not continue to wear them - maybe it was embarrassment. I cannot remember. I wish some elements of culture from the 80's, and 90's, and Western European liberal cultural influences, could have continued to influence the US.

I always loved women in thongs and g-strings, and I never understood why it was so taboo for men to wear skimpy styles and wear sexy underwear for themselves--and their partners. There was almost some sort of societal conditioned embarrassment towards men's skimpy and sexy underwear like thongs and g-strings. (Although there were times in the past where this underwear was more acceptable, and available, albeit briefly.) If wearing thongs and g-strings gives you pleasure and makes you sexy, that's all the matters. (Of course there are some caveats...)

Later on, I ended up being around what I see now as toxic (yet oddly conservative) masculinity. I did not wear thongs for fear of toxic masculinity calling them out. I realize now, having to navigate toxic masculinity was a constant theme for about 15 years! I remember some of the men I knew--and some of the women too--totally making fun of men for wearing thongs and being totally disparaging (and homophobic) about men that wore thongs.

Oddly enough, I think I was more comfortable wearing workout and cycling tights than wearing thong underwear because cycling and running were so much more of a normalized activity in my circles.

I had an ex girlfriend ask me if I ever wore thongs, and I wish I had been more open about it then--just to embrace and acknowledge that part of me. I remember, I said "no" at the time, with much regret. Anyway, it worked out fine cause my true love (my previous ex girlfriend) couldn't live without me, so she snatched me back up, and we have been happily married ever since. I even converted her towards the thong/g-string side, which we enjoy together.

Fast forward many years to say 9-10 years ago, I renewed my interest and desire to wear thongs and g-strings, and my wife LOVED it. I tried some other brands, and I didn't find anything super comfortable or that fit quite right, so I stuck with Jockey and Ergowear string bikini's for day to day wear for many years and then thongs for sunning at lakes, and special occasions.

A couple of years ago, later in life, free of toxic masculinity that would judge or disparage me if they found out what I wore, coupled with newfound confidence, I hit this point where all I wanted to wear were mens thongs/g-strings. I then went on the hunt for the ultimate underwear, hence some of my recent reviews. 'Eff the haters!!! If someone is offended or finds it un-masculine for men to wear thong or g-string underwear in private or under clothes, it's a reflection of their own opinion, insecurity, potential isolation, narrowness, and/or potentially their own toxicity.

For me, being sexy was about embracing my inner sexiness, and for me, my inner masculinity. (And wearing whatever you want to embrace your femininity, should be celebrated too!!!) I could be more sexy for my wife if I could be more sexy for myself. And sexy underwear like bikinis and then ultimately thongs and g-strings are expressions of my own sexiness, self-love, masculinity, and confidence. It is for me--and for my partner. My wife loves that about me, and it is helped our attraction and marriage grow. And quite frankly, my body much prefers the comfort of minimal skimpy underwear, and I feel much more comfortable in string thongs or g-strings. I only wear tangas on very rare occasions and avoid full bottom underwear as they are uncomfortable.

We are now in the glory days of the availability of sexy mens underwear!

My burning desire to branch out from boxers and boxer briefs led me to purchase a few tight, contoured briefs in college. However, I hardly wore them because I would be embarrassed to be seen in them.
A couple years later I brought up the notion of trying skimpier briefs to my wife and she said, it's your underwear get what you want. A couple months after trying a few briefs then looking at thongs I asked her once more, but wanting heer reaction to mens thongs. Same answer yet again and after I ordered my first pair, I have been hooked ever since.
