That's definitively a big difference between US and rest of the world, or at least Europe.
Apparently seeing someone with a swim brief is like an event in US. Here in France, and all the other European countries I have visited, swim brief is mandatory for any pool (I m not talking about beach), so you have no choice, therefore it's normal to see all men wearing swim brief.
On the contrary, on beaches, very few are wearing swim brief, let's be honest. I guess it's part of the globalisation of the ideas and part of the body shaming, puritanism and hypocrisy of the society regarding nudity.

On my recent trip to Sicily with a friend, we decided to go several times to the popular main beach in Mondello which I usually avoid. We hired sunlougers close to the sea and I was able to check out the swimwear on show. Sad to report that speedos were in the minority and were mainly worn by older guys.Lots of curtains of shame clinging to wet bodies as guys came back from a dip in the sea.My Kiniki string bikinis were by far the skimpiest on the beach (no surprise there)🤣and I noticed a few people checking me out as I lay on the sunlounger, but no-one commented.

Wish more guys would ditch the dork shorts and wear briefs or thongs. We gotta start breaking the mold.

BTW, loved the post with the youtube video about ladies liking guys in swim briefs:
