Hello all - new member here. I found this site looking for somewhere that sells bikini briefs, and I'm glad I looked in!
As regards my first bikini briefs, it was some time ago - 1984/85: I would have been about 13 or 14, and they were bought for me by my Mum. My Dad wore bikini briefs all the time, and I guess that she decided that it was time I graduated to 'grown up' underwear like him. I was quite pleased - I'd been wanting to wear them for a while, as they looked so much better than the y-fronts I'd been wearing... he had them in all sorts of bright colours and 'jungle prints' (tiger stripes etc.), and I remember overhearing my Mum once remarking to a friend of hers that they 'looked like carnival bunting hung on the washing line... little triangles of colour'.
I've been wearing bikini briefs and thongs ever since (getting on for 35 years now!). Sadly, my Dad died suddenly and unexpectedly when I was 16, and I always regret never having had a conversation with him about what got him started.
I was about 17 when I started wearing thongs and g-strings - I bought them mail-order from a company which advertised in the back of a daily paper, Kiniki. I never gave it much thought, and just put them in with the washing as normal, which caused my Mum to remark, 'they're even skimpier than the pants your Dad wore!' when she was hanging them out to dry! At the time, I was only sad that I'd reminded her about her loss.
The only problem that ever occurred regarding my choice in underwear came once when my Mum came home early and caught me sunbathing in the back garden wearing only a particularly tiny red g-string - she said I shouldn't be laying outside in my underwear, and my arguments that they were made of nylon and looked just like swimwear didn't work, but I was a hot-headed 18 year old... and I simply bought myself some Kiniki swim-briefs to negate the argument in the future.
Incidentally, I only found out last year that my older brother wears similar underwear to me! He'd left home to go to University when I was about 12, and basically never lived at home after that, so I never noticed what was in his bottom drawer. Our conversation happened when he gave me a pack of four boxer shorts he'd won in a raffle (naff prize!), and I said, 'no thanks - I prefer skimpy stuff, like Dad used to wear', and he replied, 'yeah, me too - I like something that holds everything together'. We decided that if loose boxers were on a scale at 1, and the stuff Dad wore was at 10, we both wear stuff at about 12 on the scale.
He's happily married, and I'm happily divorced, and neither of our partners have ever been unhappy with what we wear.
Any way, sorry for the rambling - it's just nice to be able to talk about things like this!
Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Welcome to the forums JohnnyB. You've come to the right place to share your passion for skimpy underwear. Hoping my son follows the same path you did and wants to eventually try the underwear types I wear and go against the norm. Thanks for sharing your start into underwear.
Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Thank you for your reply and welcome, tbdrawer.
I've spent a fair bit of time today reading up all the posts to get myself up-to-speed (it beats working for a living!), and I think I'm really going to enjoy it here.
As regards passing on a passion for skimpy underwear, my Dad seems to have passed it on to both his sons by doing nothing other than making it normal and an option... I hope the same happens in your household too, and you pass on your passion to your own son simply by making it normal and an option.

Johnnyb welcome you will find a great group of like minded individuals here. I stumbled on TBR just a few months back and it has been great. I think most of us need to thank our moms because the trend appears that it was our moms that bought our first pairs. It is great that you inherited the interest from your dad and evening better that your brother followed suit. My dad and brother wear boxer briefs or plain boxers. Again welcome to the group.
Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Hello David_NC - thanks for your welcome.
Yes, I agree: Mum's definitely do have a big role to play - buying the first pairs, or even not buying, but simply not making a fuss when they end up in the laundry basket!
Thinking back, she actually seemed proud that the men in her life wore them. Certainly she was always proud of my Uncle's achievements (her younger brother) - he was a body-builder in the 1960s and always wore skimpy posers in competitions... he could no wrong in her eyes, so that probably helped!

Hi JohnnyB. Good(groan) to welcome you to the forum, and don't feel you have to apologize for rambling! Nate and the rest of us guys love to read about what got new members hooked on skimpy undies and thongs, and I see you have already posted several comments on different topics.JohnnyB wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 4:06 am Hello all - new member here. Have to say that reading your introduction struck several chords with me. Like you,I ordered mail order from Kiniki having seen the advert in the papers, and all these years later,I still have some of their thongs,g-strings,bikinis and swim briefs etc in my collection. I also sunbathed in a red g-string(was yours the Gigolo by Kiniki)? My own Father also died suddenly and unexpectedly when I was 16.Unlike yours, he didn't wear bikini briefs,so I didn't get my passion from him. Before I discovered Kiniki,I used to buy lots of my skimpy bikinis etc from my Mum and two sisters' mail order catalogues,so my Mum was cool about my undies not being your average y-fronts. I think the fact your Uncle was a bodybuilder and regularly wore posing trunks probably gave your Mum such a positive view of skimpy menswear.
That's incredible that you only recently found out that you and your brother share a passion for similar underwear.
I look forward to reading more of your comments.p.s Can I ask where you're from? I'm guessing it could be the UK?
Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Hello Tanga Tanga - our stories are so similar... perhaps we're long lost brothers?!
I too still have the Kiniki stuff I bought all those years ago - and it's all still in good shape, despite all the wear and all the washing... it's really well-made stuff.
Yes, the red g-string I wore to top-up my tan and which got me into trouble was a Gigolo! It's one of the ones that I still have, and still occasionally wear, although back then as a 17/18 year old I was wearing small-medium, and now I need large, so the pouch is definitely on the indecent-side-of-skimpy on me now.
I am in the UK - originally the English side of the Welsh border (with half my family being Welsh), and now living in the countryside on the edge of Sheffield (I need to live near hills or I get twitchy).
Being part Welsh, I was born with 'Welshman's Thigh'... well-developed thigh muscles. The odd time I've worn boxers or boxer-briefs (to show willing when bought them by girlfriends/ex-wife), they've bunched up something rotten all across the tops of my legs, and led to day-long discomfort. Thinking about it, that might be why my Dad wore stuff with narrow side straps too?
It's nice to meet another UK thong-and-bikini wearer - there used to be thousands of us in my teen-age years, but I fear we're becoming an endangered species now! A high proportion of lads in the school and college changing room back then were bikini-brief wearers, as wells as Dad's and Uncles... I sometimes wonder when/why/how it all changed. Incidentally, I clearly remember two lads in the year above me at Sixth Form College very openly discussing their Kiniki purchases and swapping catalogues in the common room - they were not in my group, and I never chatted to them about it, but often wish that I did. I found one of them on Facebook a few years ago, and his profile picture was pair of union-jack boxer shorts that I recognised from the Kiniki catalogue, so perhaps he, at least, is still wearing skimpy stuff.
Realised I'm rambling again - but from your welcome, I gather I've found a place to ramble here!

Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
Morning brother(lol). The Gigolo g-string is probably my favourite g-string of all time, and I still have a few from those halcyon days(including the naughty red one). I was so disappointed when Kiniki stopped making them, and even more so when they brought it back and I discovered the pouch and elastic had changed and not for the better. I often wore the red one on the beach in Sicily for swimming and sunbathing because it dried quickly and was great for tanning my butt(this was before I discovered the nudist zone). I'm hoping that Nate will feature my g-string collection in a future Share the Goods post, because my Gigolo strings will be a part of it.JohnnyB wrote: Thu Jul 30, 2020 1:35 am Hello Tanga Tanga - our stories are so similar... perhaps we're long lost brothers?!

The Kiniki catalogues were so cool and seemed to pop through my letterbox on a regular basis. I couldn't wait to open them and see what new styles were available. The prices were great and their special offers of spend so much and get the same again free were too good to miss. I'm not sure when I started to lose interest in Kiniki, but I do remember buying several swim bikinis that totally squashed my package and several of their Allure g-strings that became very uncomfortable between my cheeks after a short period of time. Once I discovered the joys of online underwear shopping,Kiniki was relegated from my go to list.
You will find many posts on here speculating on the reasons for the demise of men wearing skimpier undies, and when it started to go wrong. All we can do is continue to wear our g-strings,thongs,bikinis etc with confidence and hope that the tide will once again turn in our favour.
Re: Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?
I've not bought from Kiniki for a few years - they seemed to change, and not for the better. Is their stuff still good? I had a look at their site, and noticed that they no longer sell the Gigolo... great shame!

If you check out last week's post on the TBD blog about Losing favourite brands, you'll see quite a few guys(myself included)mentioning how Kiniki used to be a favourite brand, but in recent years they seemed to lose their way. The Gigolo did make a comeback some years ago,but it wasn't a patch on the original.JohnnyB wrote: Fri Jul 31, 2020 6:43 am I've not bought from Kiniki for a few years - they seemed to change, and not for the better.
