TV shows that show men in bikinis/ leggings

Not sure if the long running soap Coronation Street will be familiar to anyone outside of the UK, but for those here who are old enough to remember, there was a scene many years ago where two characters called Kevin Webster and Norman(Curly) Watts were sharing a room in Emily Bishop's house. Kevin was the eye candy on the show at that time(good looking,moustache and stocky build) and had many female and gay fans, while Curly was the skinny,geeky character(glasses and long straight hair) who was always unlucky in love. I remember Curly was wearing unflattering boxers and excited about checking out the stars through a telescope, while Kevin was wearing skimpy red bikini briefs and lying somewhat bored on his bed.Looking back at it now I can see the stereotypical attitude that the geek wore boxers while the hunk was in bikini briefs, but it was a time when skimpy undies were commonplace in high street stores.

Sounds like in Mexican TV (I think also much of Latin America).

The cool guys, including heroes and protagonists, were shown wearing bikini briefs at the beach or pool. The dorky, uncool, prudish guys were in baggy shorts.

Sounds like in Mexican TV (I think also much of Latin America).

The cool guys, including heroes and protagonists, were shown wearing bikini briefs at the beach or pool. The dorky, uncool, prudish guys were in baggy shorts.

It's quite different in American movies and TV shows- all the cool, macho guys are in board shorts down past their knees, while only weird, creepy guys and old, fat men are shown in bikini swim briefs and thongs.

It's quite different in American movies and TV shows- all the cool, macho guys are in board shorts down past their knees, while only creepy dudes and old, fat men are shown in bikini swim briefs.

It kind of changed to the same perception in the US, but later like in the early 2000s though not as much.

The story titled "The Raft" is about a group of teens who go to a local swimming hole for a day of fun, and quickly find themselves trapped on a wooden raft when they discover a terrible creature that lives in the lake that devours anything it touches. One of the teen boys is wearing a yellow bikini swim brief.

Was flicking through the TV channels last night and came across a clip from a programme called Ninja Warrior Australia which involves contestants swinging above a swimming pool on ropes etc to get to the other side without touching the water. This episode featured a guy wearing budgy smugglers, which obviously made him stand out from the other competitors who seemed to favour shorts. As he was swinging above the pool, the female commentator said "those budgy smugglers are certainly not weighing him down." There was also a segment where he was asked about the reason for wearing them, and he said it was partly because of his aboriginal heritage(their flag was on his smugglers), but also because of their freedom of movement. Sadly he didn't qualify for the final due to one of his feet touching the water at the very last second, but his budgy smugglers will ensure he's remembered.

There was an episode of American Dad where Steve Smith and his friends meet a salesman who was selling men's string bikini, thong and jockstrap underwear. He told them all how cool these styles were and how all the other boys in the locker room will admire and envy them for wearing jocks, thongs and string bikinis, so they all bought something from them. So later on in the show, they are at summer camp and strip down to their skimpies in front of the other boys. The next scene shows Steve and his friends all hanging from trees and fence posts by the waistbands of their underwear

The tv programme Top Of The Pops was essential viewing for anyone who followed the music charts here in the UK. I remember an American band called Cameo appearing and their lead singer Larry Blackmon was wearing a bright red codpiece over skintight leggings which became his trademark over the years.
