As the others said in their replies it gets easier every time you wear one. Just today I was done with work early so I headed to the local state park beach. Thongs are legal in Michigan at the state parks. The beach is quite long and most people setup off the main parking lot. The left side of the beach is a long walk down a hill from an upper parking lot.
Getting back to my story about this afternoon. I got to beach around 12:30 and setup far to the left end of the beach after awhile I could hear people coming down the hill. A couple of teen boys and their parents. I was wearing a black thong from Skinzwear. The boys went to the left of and the dad said no come this way, then I heard the women say oh look at that, you don't see that everyday. I just chuckled to myself thinking yeah you are right. They still setup only a few yards from me.

I haven't had any issues at this park or the ones in Ohio.
But still get butterflies once in awhile wearing thongs but it's get easier all the time, this is my second season wearing thongs.
Keep working at it.

I'm guessing the dad and his two sons were wearing dork shorts, but I hope I'm wrong? lol

If only I could predict the winning lottery numbers as easily as I did with the dork shorts. lol

I did it for the first time just this Saturday! Sure I was kinda nervous; might've heard a couple people scoff or laugh but I really didn't care since no one actively bothered me. For the most part no one bat an eye and a couple people even complimented me so I will most definitely do it again.

It definitely helps for confidence to have someone who doesn't mind being seen with you, whether they are also wearing a thong or not

Straw-Strings, congratulations on your first beach thing experience. Getting compliments is wonderful and I know that builds confidence. You are most correct it is great to have someone with you that accepts your choice of swimwear. Now get out and do it again with confidence and joy.

I like to help and support anyone I can who is interested in wearing swim briefs and thongs!

There is something to be said for having confidence and a friendly smile. I met a friend at the beach today. The first thing she noticed was my bright neon orange thong. The back triangle was a bit smaller providing a glimpse of my tan line. As usual it is not a big deal for me to wear a thong on the beach and we are simply chatting while enjoying the day. I’m up walking around our little slice of the beach as we talk and drink and eat. Soon enough I notice a woman with three children approaching and she stopped a few yards away from us to set up for the day. Her children quickly are down to their swim suits and headed for the water. Ok, not big deal. She doesn’t mind what I’m wearing. Then to my surprise she strips down to a very cheeky (almost thong bikini). She obviously takes note of my swimwear and I see a smile as she looks my way. Then I see that she has moved her suit to expose more of her cheeks, now like a true thong. It is very obvious from her tan line that this is the first time this summer she has worn anything so reveling. Yet, she seem confident and self assured. She is up walking around tending to her children. All the stuff that mothers do.At some point I’m in the water and her children are near by. She steps in to guide her child to shallower water. I mention that the color of her suit is wonderful for her. This started a conversation about which beaches are good, how often she has been to this particular beach, and what her favorite places are.
As the day wears on she is taking the children home before I am leaving the beach. She stops by to say goodbye and say she hopes to see me gain. It was quite a pleasant encounter.
Again, be confident, smile, be friendly and be open. If you do this while wearing a thong you’ll make new friends or at the very least have pleasant conversations with people.

What a great story, for many reasons! But most of all is the positive role models both she and you present to her children for the freedom to enjoy your bodies in a normal, natural, reasonable and acceptable fashion in public. I'd say the chances are good that as the children get older, they will want to wear their own versions of smaller swimwear in age-appropriate designs, perhaps working their way to thongs or bikinis over time.
