I have nothing but men's bikini and thong underwear. I don't own any boxers or Y-front briefs. I have no choice but to wear a bikini brief to the hospital or to a doctor's visit.

This topic seems weird, but I have to have a medical procedure in November and will have to be in the hospital for 5 days. I plan to only pack my boxer briefs while I am there. While I am shy about who sees my underwear choice I am not ashamed of them. However I feel boxer briefs will provide me more modesty in the hospital post surgery. Has anyone had an occasion where they had to be in the hospital (or similar situation) and used boxers/boxer briefs instead of bikinis or thongs? Or just continued with what you wear and said the heck with it ?
Do you think women have a pair of granny panties that they set aside for doctor visits or hospital stays? Probably not! Don't be ashamed, wear what you always do!

I broke my knee about 7 years ago and was wearing a purple and neon yellow jock thong hybrid from Andrew Christian. When the nurses and other hospital staff were helping me get my clothes off and my pants came off one of the nurses started to giggle a bit, a male nurse later asked me about why and where to buy underwear such as I had. And since it was an unplanned event it was the only underwear I had. While I needed to wear the hospital gown the general consensus was that while they advised most patients to wear underwear I might not want to. I was on a floor filled with mostly 70+ patients who might not be so comfortable with the sight of my neon and purple jock thong butt.
That being said I don't think you should need to choose your underwear based on other peoples perception or opinions. Wear what you are comfortable and confident in.

Great to see a new follower contributing their personal experiences immediately on joining the forum. It really does help to keep it alive and interesting.
Given how tedious and boring a hospital stay can be for many patients, perhaps the sight of your neon thong/jock clad butt might have been a welcome diversion for some of the 70 yrs+ guys on your ward, and who's to say that some of them didn't share your personal taste in skimpy undies? I don't know how many guys of that age follow the blog and wear thongs and such like, but I do know that reaching a certain age does not mean you have to settle for boring boxer shorts etc.

Back in 2009 (while traveling across country), I had to make an emergency stop at a hospital to get treatment for a deep boil on my inner left thigh. The doctor came in with the nurse and I had to remove my gym shorts so he could examine the boil. I was wearing my grey cotton Jockey bikini briefs. The nurse had this look on her face... what I could best described as stunned. I don't think she had ever seen a man wearing bikini underwear.

I had to make a trip to the ER last night for persistent pain radiating down my left arm. I also have a numb spot on my right thigh... had it since last Friday and it's starting to hurt so fearing a blood clot. I brought up the issue with my thigh and the doctor ordered an ultrasound on my thigh. The technician that did the ultrasound was a pretty blonde woman in her 30s. She asked me to pull down my pants past my knees, revealing the purple bikini brief that I had been wearing all day. She didn't say anything, but at the end of the procedure, I commented, "Glad I didn't wear my thong today! She thought that was funny.

So sorry to hear about your hospital visit. I hope you are feeling better and got some answers from the doctor. I'm sure folks that work in emergency medicine have seen just about everything. She has probably seen bikini and thong underwear on men before. Best wishes for speedy recovery.

The numbness on my right thigh was undetermined, however, the sonogram did not reveal any blood clots or nerve damage. The doctor said that the pain in my neck and shoulders were due to arthritis.

To follow up from my question, the procedure went good and I spent the week in the hospital. As for underwear, when I got there I had to strip into a hospital gown and be shaved from chin to toe - that part sucked. And I didn’t put on underwear until I got dressed to go home a week later. I only wore a hospital gown and socks for a week, so no worries about anyone seeing my undies they just saw my ass lol. Once home I did just wear my briefs or bikinis.

I have thought about this issue a lot as I work in the medical field as a family physician (I work in a clinic, hospital, and sometimes ER setting). There are times when I pull an item out of my drawer to wear for the day and wonder if I get into a car accident and they are cutting off my clothes in the trauma bay, what would the medical personnel think if they seem me wearing something risqué. That may sound irrational, given those circumstances, but it is something I have thought about more than once!
In patient encounters (male physicals), I usually only see men wear more conservative underwear choices such as briefs (maybe some rare bikinis). If a man happened to wear a thong or something on that order, I would likely take note but not say anything of course. It would be important to maintain professionalism.
It's important just to be who you are. Seize the day
