Great job Nickbriefs - the first time is always the hardest. I was lucky that my wife was supportive, but still didn't calm my nerves - especially when there were families with small kids and the dads were in long board shorts. I waited until the beach was less crowded, only walked to the water and back and only one time did I get a little further away from my chair than I wanted due to the kids boogie board flying away and I had to run after it - I forgot I was only wearing a swim brief when that happened - luckily no one cared.

This part is really interesting to me. It sounds like you were most worried about your peers (other dads with their families) and I think I’m kind of the same way. Wearing swim briefs around other guys my age who are all wearing board shorts is what tends to give me pause, especially if they’re more fit/in better shape than I am. I wonder if there’s something psychological there, like we assume our peers will judge us more harshly?

I believe you are 100% right. I’m not the bodybuilder type, I have lost some weight (still have more to go) and that is probably what helped push me over the edge, a small boost in confidence. I did still feel I would be judge for not having the perfect body and wearing so little. Our society has come a long way but still has a ways to go.

I’m married with kids type guy. frequently sport my speedo briefs at beaches or boating anywhere from Destin to Perdido, FL. We usually prefer to go to less populated beaches or less populated parts of the beach, I don’t make a big deal out of it…I just go for it. No one ever says anything. I think that most other men (swim shorts types) admire a guy who feels confident wearing a brief. I’ve worn Speedos on and off since I was a kid and am most of the only time the only one rocking one…lol! By the way, I’m fit but fairly average looking. My preferred brief is something athletic from Speedo, Nike, Arena with = or > 2.25”.

I feel like the more of us guys that sport the brief at the beach, hotel, resort etc on a regular basis the more they will get normalized again as they were back in 1970s into early 90s.

Go for it guys!

Bikiniguy1971 this is me too! Married with two kids and my experience on the beach is the same. No one really ever says anything, and you're right about not making a big deal about it. We live about 1-1.5 hours from the Alabama and Pensacola/Perdido beach areas. We especially like going to Johnson Beach when we can. I've worn swim briefs down there now for about 10 years and have had very few reactions from folks. I wear the athletic styles as well. I really like Sporti Euros.
