I worked up the nerve to ask. When I was in junior high, jockey actually made elance bikinis and boys sizes. (this would’ve been around 1990). We were back/to-school shopping, and I picked up a tube in my size. My mom suggested getting lighter colors so they wouldn’t show through my pants.
Shortly after, I was old enough to shop in the men’s section and continued wearing the bikini style

So I swam competitively growing up so I was wearing speedos from early in, so didn’t really ask but wouldn’t say it was by chance either. However around 14 or 15 I did ask to get some “non swim team” speedos as well as asked to get, what I would call sexier underwear briefs compared to the tightie whities I grew up wearing. I ended up with some low rise jockey briefs in various colors. Then after a couple years of wearing the non swim team speedos in the backyard and on certain beach vacations I asked for a smaller bikini style swimsuit.

I swam too. Wish I would have kept up with in, who knows maybe I would still be wearing swim briefs lol. I got DQ’d from a big race on a stupid technicality, I would have won too. My immature young self rage quit competitive swimming after that.

Not my mom but I was with a friend and his mom in middle school…..I was staying over night and with them on the weekend……It was a few weeks before school started in August……we were at what was then a Lazarus “now Macy’s) and his mom said he needed new underwear…..he picked out three tubes of elance bikinis……I didn’t know he wore those…..she asked him to get all white…..come to find out we are still friends and I was invited to his house a few years back to reunite and he gave me a tour of his house and I saw in the Laundry Room….Jockey Elance Bikinis in the laundry basket….so he still wears them and he’s in his late forties!

When we were young boys my mother bought us matching speedo style swim briefs from Sears Roebuck for the beach. I'm the only one that still wears that style, or swim thongs, even in old age.

This brings up a memory of when I was in middle school the 6th grade around 92-93 and was school shopping which included underwear. I remember seeing the lower torso male mannequin with Jockey Elance Bikini briefs and Calvin Klein string bikinis over the underwear display. I tried to convince my mom to get me those styles and she wasn’t haven’t it. I got some colored Hanes briefs instead.

I bought the Eddie Bauer brief during school shopping at Kmart I think, before 7th grade with money I had earned working for a farmer. That year I graduated from home made clothing to store bought and I had no idea they would be that much more comfortable.
