Pennbikini, you bring up a great point. I grew up in the 80’s and remember these style of underwear being the norm. My dad didn’t wear such underwear, as he was in the army and wore those army green/brown briefs. I did have two uncles that I know for fact wore bikinis and string bikinis. I knew of one uncle because he lived with us for a short period and we shared a room and I was privy to his underwear and another uncle, who was married with kids who had international male magazines etc. These were two black males who I knew for certain wore these styles and it did have an impact on me. As I got older and was able to buy my own underwear things changed and I gave into what was the style of the 2000’s.Pennbikini wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 9:07 am Something DEFINITELY happened in the late 90s with the boxer wildfire burning across society, at least in the US. It's a pity that people felt such pressure; I was out of undergrad by the late 90s, and was happily onto grad school. My African-American roommate my freshman year of college, whom I spoke of before, always wore bikinis and was on the football team as well; he was not the only one who wore bikinis. I wasn't on the football team, but I'd say at least 25-30% of the dorm wore bikinis. Later, when I was off campus, with another roommate, we both wore bikinis as well. How quickly things changed, I suppose!

Yeah, 97 or so was my last year seeing multiple other men on regular occasions in underwear, and that was just after college. Other than occasional times in locker rooms now, I know nothing of trends other than what I see on TV!\
But yes, back in the late 80s and 1st half of the 90s, I don't recall seeing but one or two in boxers. The golden era?

Another MC Hammer video that shows him in similar bikini briefs. Begins at the 4:30 mark: https://youtu.be/vHalHUjbwPU.
In the 80’s and early to mid 90’s it was the norm for most men, regardless of race, to wear such underwear with confidence. Things changed in the late 90’s to 2000’s. I’m glad I had the opportunity to grow up during the 80’s so that I could see this underwear was cool to wear.
Another example is this video by the group Guy. I was 8 when this song/video was out but I remember that guys, no matter the race, wore biker shorts and speedos as depicted in this video. https://youtu.be/WR4b4V-lH1I?si=I-d_-G78xIh0Cmi2

I know he's a controversial figure, but Mike Tyson in the late 80s, 90s, and even up to the 2000s seemed to exclusively be a briefs and bikini briefs guy. You can find lots of photos online and even some videos of his weigh-ins before fights and it seems like in majority of them, he's wearing bikini briefs. However nowadays, it seems that he's switched over to boxer briefs like a lot of guys.

I have been pondering this post for a while. I am a white male so my opinions are without actual knowledge. Is the answer however, that the "brothers" as you put it, are more confident, stylish and accepting already and do not need a forum like this to share in? Whereas, we white men are not these things and so this forum is more needed?

I feel you on that. I think it's just a bit more complicated being a SoCal, 90's generation. With the common social group and gang affiliates who would not let me live comfortably as a straight dark skin male.

I was just early in high school when that was out! Wow, I hadn't heard it in forever.blkmlthng wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 8:38 am Another MC Hammer video that shows him in similar bikini briefs. Begins at the 4:30 mark: https://youtu.be/vHalHUjbwPU.

The change in fashion happened so quickly, upon reflection now. I'm not much of a fashion type myself, but I guess I just stuck to what I liked. I'm not sure if any of those other guys did.
