NC Beach Wear: First Time

Post by fbbnate »

Hi all I am new to the forum, I posted in general uw too.

Late July 2022, I went to North Carolina (NC) Topsail Island (I live in Illinois) and it was a long 18 hour drive with a break half way through, first time I've been to NC/a beach in 14 years and first time for my fiance (then gf, I proposed on our trip). we stayed 4 days 3 nights at a beach house through air bnb. also it was the first time I'd driven that far (farthest was ohio for Cedar point i.e. around 6 hours, which was a couple weeks before lol) so I was nervous to drive that far, my fiance and I switched off driving but I was glad to have a newish car (2020 CRV) to get us there. as a kid/teen my parents always drove.

I heard from another briefs friend that I should try a speedo/swim brief at the beach. in all my 32 years I'd only worn swim trunks or board shorts (all without underwear, even as a kid) and I said, "hm that sounds interesting" and I bought 3 pairs in red for the trip. one pair was calvin klein and the other 2 were speedo brand.

I wasn't sure if I'd actually be comfortable or confident enough to wear it once we got there. the first day it was late afternoon when we got to the beach house and I brought a pair of swim trunks and wore those the first evening, I was ITCHING to visit a beach: smell/feel the water, feel/smell the breeze, and sand on me! I loved it.

the 2nd morning I woke up and told my fiance i had a surprise (she knows I wear briefs) and came out in a pair of CK swim briefs. she was surprised but not turned off, I say that cause I'm overweight with a sizable stomach and butt.

with that, once we went out to the beach I was nervous and wore a towel over the briefs, after about 1 minute, I said F IT! and took off the towel. the beach was pretty crowded (the neighbors and the condo connected to other renters) with kids and adults alike.

BUT I LOVED IT, I was the most comfortable I'd ever been on a beach, I didn't have to worry about constantly fixing my swim shorts and worrying about a wedgie. I also felt so comfortable fit wise on the beach and ESPECIALLY in the water, I had so much freedom of movement. I was surprised and sad I was the only one in swim briefs though the entire trip :(

I have no shame in front of my fiance but not in front of others, I was INSANELY glad I got the courage to wear the 3 pairs throughout the rest of the trip!! when we go back I hope to lose weight and again not wear anything but speedos at the beach!!!!

anyone else have a similar experience?

later

P.S. when are signatures gonna be turned on??? lol

Hi fbbnate and welcome to the forums! I would have replied to your post sooner but didn't see it till now for some reason. Congratulations on breaking away from the boardies and welcome to the briefs club! I know that amazing feeling of freedom you get wearing swim briefs at the beach the first time, especially in the water. I can also relate to being disappointed about being the only man in a bikini on the beach. I'm fortunate to live within an hour or two of some beautiful white sand beaches on the Florida panhandle. Whenever we go, I'm without exception the only man in a brief.

I'm glad you had the courage to go for it and break the barrier as I call it. Yeah 18hrs is a long drive for sure. Maybe you can find some lake Michigan beaches closer to Illnois to visit and wear your briefs this summer?

HEY!! thanks for the reply!

yeah I was sad to see that I was the only one, I bet 99.999% of beaches in the USA are like that, but if I went to Europe or anywhere BUT the USA I bet thered ONLY be guys in swim briefs, even kids...I may visit Latin america or europe some day and will try to check on the beaches too...

and idk about visit chicago beaches
1. I CANNOT STAND chicago, I prefer STL hands down as far as big cities are concerned (mostly cause I'm a cardinals baseball fan, only sport I care about)
2. it's not the same as a coastal beach, you don't smell the waves, see as far into nothingness and such
3. right now I am NOT IN SHAPE, as I said in the original post. I hope by the time we go to another beach years from now I'll be skinny again.

I'll update you all if I do!!!

Being from NYC I haven't gotten to the beach since I switched to wearing swim. Bikinis being single I don't really go on vacations that have me going to the beach either...

I live in NC and always wear Speedos at the beach! And like you, I'm usually the only guy on the beach wearing them!I don't get that! And I'm trying yo figure out the logic of guys wearing board shorts that cone down to (or even below) their knees! A lot of those guys have good builds (more fit than me) and would look good in a Speedo or something similar.

Sorry to be chiming in late, I was at the NC coast earlier in August. Only saw one guy with a mid-thigh style swim suit on. All the other guys were wearing at least knee length. My shorts were above the knee, but my swim brief was on below them. There was a family from Canada staying in the same condo complex, I was curious if he would wear smaller trunks or briefs, but he also wore long shorts. Last year there was three female friends, one was in a one piece, one in a two piece, one in a thong; no sights like that this year.

The old US double standard. Two weeks at an east coast beach and saw only 1 guy wearing swim briefs, yet at least 50 women wearing cheeky side-tie bikinis. I was ready hit the beachwear shop and buy womens bikini bottoms (no swim briefs there, only rows and rows of dork shorts.....) We gotta break the mold here.
