straight but confused

Post by SouthernBro »

I am 19 years old, and have never thought much about what I wear. I wear loose boxers 90% of the time but a few months ago, I saw a dude at my gym wearing a thong. I usually love seeing girls in thongs but this was the first time I saw a guy wear one. I did get a boner but concealed it. Ever since, I have sometimes googled where to buy them but have been nervous to actually do it.

After a few google searches, I found this site so I created a profile and was curious how many guys wear them? I play a variety of sports at school and with friends but rarely see anyone wearing anything besides boxers/boxerbriefs.

Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't be too concerned about your reaction to the guy in the gym. You can't always control how your body reacts to a visual image that you're not accustomed to, so don't be too quick to label yourself.
There are lots of guys who wear thongs and other skimpy styles, which explains why there are so many different brands to choose from, although they are mostly found online rather than actual shops depending on where you live. I'm sure the guys on here will give you lots of good advice on where to buy thongs and what is best for someone just starting out. You may have to try a few to find out which ones are comfortable and it's important to get the sizing right, so best not to buy anything too expensive incase they don't fit properly.

Welcome to our group! Instead of a thong, you could start with a Men's Brazilian Bikini style, which has a nicer looking more comfortable back, and a pouch front. I started out with tight flat-front speedos when I was a kid, then wore thongs in my 20's. I'm a very hairy manly guy, so I can wear anything I like at any beach, the smaller the better.

Welcome to the forum. If you normally wear boxers the transition to a thong might seem like a big leap. I’d say it’s a leap worth trying. You might want to try bikinis style brief as well. When it comes to thongs, fit is key. Too tight or too loose can be uncomfortable. If the rear strap is too short it can feel like it is cutting into you. If the rear strap is too long it can feel sloppy. I suggest trying a few different styles and manufacturers. Being new to this world find thongs and bikinis that are not more than $10. Several sites have thongs and bikinis at $10 and less. Read the size charts carefully because a medium for one manufacturer may be a small or a large for another manufacturer. Remember Asian sizing is much smaller than US sizing for an example. Also material is important to consider. Cotton can be comfortable (N2N basics are comfortable for me). Nylon/spandex has a good amount of stretch and give. Modal material is very comfortable for daily wear. Last, if you’re not happy with one thong try a different one. There are a few manufacturers that have thongs I do not like and other I wear daily. Some of my favorite are iKingsky (Amazon), N2N Bodywear, Andrew Christian (select styles), and J.J. Malibu.

BTW, my girlfriends love seeing me in wearing a thong.

Welcome to the forum, you didn't really say what you were confused about. Popping a boner at the gym seeing a guy in a thong, don't worry about that - you're 19 and can get a boner if the wind changes direction. If you are confused by what a thong would feel like, read through the posts and I'm certain you'll find lots of answers to any questions you have and please feel comfortable asking any questions you might have. I actually got my first thong when I was 19 (42 now). I wore boxers and briefs, and even string bikinis prior to my first thong. My first was Jockey, and it wasn't great - so if you decide to try a thong just know your first one might not be a winner. If you wear Jockey brand, the next time you order some of your regular style, throw in a thong and try it. I personally like the iKingsky (camo) for working out at the gym. They are snug, but don't squash the boys; supportive, but not restrictive. you do have to order from Amazon, so be prepared to get the mail if you aren't ready for parents or roommates to see you experimenting with other styles of undies. BTW, I'm a married straight guy with 2 kids, my wife doesn't care what kind of undies I wear. But I will say other 19, 20-something females may think they are strange - but that is their problem if you decide you like them.

If the item is "shipped by Amazon" (not a storefront) you can have it sent to a nearby Amazon Locker. Privacy and it won't get stolen, the best way for small items. If that locker is full, pick a nearby locker instead or wait a day for it to empty out.

Welcome to the forums. My admiration of seeing women in bikinis and thongs is what drove me to want to try them. When I discovered they were out there for guys I knew I had to get some to try. I started with bikinis, which I discovered were actually available in the stores back when I started. The Internet has open up the doors for trying an array of underwear made for men instead of what is out there in the main stream world. Yes, there are stereotypes that bikinis and thongs are feminine or gay. Clothing doesn't make one one thing or another. You can check out this post on my blog. Why do people wear thongs? There are other posts on thongs on the blog you can check out too.

For how many guys wear them that is a hard question. What I would say it has to be growing. The number of brands out there offering thongs has increased I'd say dramatically over the last 10 years. Though I'm sure the percentage of guys wearing them is still low especially as their everyday underwear. The blog and forums were created to encourage and support those interested in going against the norm in men's underwear and swimwear. Everyone is supportive here, so feel free to ask your questions without judgement.

I'm sure the stereotypes associated with the style holds guys back from trying them. Then the piece of fabric between the cheeks seems to scare people too!

For me the support of bikinis and thongs make them great for sports. Less fabric is cooler too.

I've wandered over from the "Bar None Bikini Ranch" to offer a welcome to you, too! I noticed that you said you play sports, so it sounds like you work out to be fit and healthy. I'm sure the gym members here on the Forum would support the idea of you wearing a thong under your workout clothes for freedom of movement when exercising, not to mention just staying cooler in general when you are in the gym. And that is something you can enjoy under your regular clothes during everyday activities, too, especially on a warm day. (And you have PLENTY of warm days in the south!) Once you've found a brand(s) to your liking, you'll never look back with fondness to your former underwear! You may also want to try bikinis or even g-strings as you become more attuned to the idea of wearing microwear in general. As for the possibility of your friends seeing what you are wearing as underwear in the locker room or the like...who knows, other guys may be wearing them and just kept it a secret. (Was the guy you saw a few months ago a friend, or just another gym member you were not acquainted with?) And if you are the "pioneer" of the group, great! Remember, it is YOUR choice, NOT THEIRS. If you are wearing your thong with confidence, and can speak from experience to your friends as to comfort and support, other guys may decide to try them out, too. As you settle in here on the Forum and read the posts, you will notice one point in particular being emphasized repeatedly: microwear does NOT determine a person's sexual orientation. DO NOT let yourself be suckered into that line of "thinking!" (There is NO thinking in that echo chamber. Only harebrained fear and secret envy.) Let us know how your journey progresses. Post "early and often!" :P

Going thru high school in the early 2000's trying to catch a peak of a girl wearing low rise jeans and a thong was definitely a fun daily occurrence, im pretty sure that's where my intrigue really kicked off. Before that, thru-out the 80's mens thongs and skimpy bikinis were actually very popular for the athletic and "on the go" male audience. They come and go with popularity, but there is something to be said when a guy can enjoy adding some variety to his life with different underwear types. For me i find it to be multi facited, there is a comfort aspect which can be hit and miss with the style and your body type. If you don't mind spending a bit of money and trying different styles, brands and types you will find the variety that suits the fit and comfort your looking for. Honestly once you get past the stigma, you wont even think about it and it will be a part of your daily routine. Recognizing a good male physique wearing a thong isnt gay at all in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging and even noticing a man or woman who puts effort into their physique and presentation and isnt afraid to strut their stuff.

For me it initially started as a curiosity of the style, then morphed into a comfort first, and an added "excitement" as a close second. My old girlfriend really enjoyed it, and we both had fun thats for sure. If your concerned what other girls might think, consider this. Its an easy way to weed out those who dont instantly judge you for trying something different, and honestly accepting the fact that someone is standing out from the boring crowd of plain boxers. Those who do enjoy it, it definitely adds another dimension of excitement to a relationship; we always were wondering what eachother were wearing everyday. :D

I will admit, i found out of all underwear styles, thongs have the largest variety (some great, some terrible)
