I believe we have the opportunity to be a part of a new healthy masculinity, and clothing (and of course underwear preferences) are a part of that. I think this has run in cycles for a while now. I think the US is becoming a bit more body positive overall, though I think we still have a ways to go. I've also reached a place where I am comfortable letting go of those friendships that are just not supportive, toxic, or highly critical.
It feels a little uncomfortable wearing things like workout leggings in public for the first time (and sometimes second time, and third time...) However, it's an opportunity to embrace who you are, what you like, and what is comfortable.
Rock what you got, and good people will appreciate you for who you really are. My wife loves that about me, and I think our friends appreciate me for being who I am and wearing what I feel comfortable in and embracing it.

Re: Leggings and tights
Im freaking ready to ditch my hiking pants (thought they're perfectly fine and stretchy) for some nice leggings to hike and workout. I always wear leggings UNDER the pants but Ive reach a fashion crisis where Im trying to look good in everything hahaha and Im going to pull the trigger on some good ones. No shorts nada. I agree, the shorts look horrible with the leggings though I get it.
As far as tights, like hose - I havent been running lately so they dont get much yoga use. Im not wearing those out and about, even though I enjoy "rockstar" styles of outfits.
Eventually if I buy myself a new suit, Ill buy some hose as a base layer - its an ongoing experiment. Smooth lines and all that. My shirt garters are cheap too - those things pinch everywhere.
