College Roommate Underwear

What did your college roommate’s wear when you were in College? What years were you a student?

My freshman roommate wore colored FTL briefs.

My sophomore roommate wore colored jockey low rise briefs and jockey elance bikinis

My junior and senior roommates wore Hanes boxer briefs and Calvin Klein Trunks and AE Boxers and Boxer Briefs.

I was in college from 1997 until 2002!

I was in college in the mid-90s. Freshman year, an African-American football player, wore undies that were very similar to mine -- Jordache, FOTL, Gitano, Jockey bikinis and string bikinis. After that, I moved off campus and my roommate wore mostly Hang Ten and Jockey elance type bikinis, whereas I stuck mostly to string bikinis.

I didn't have a college roommate, but my older brother did. I was fortunate to hang out and saw their underwear choices. The taller one, lanky and a runner (I think) he wore CK briefs. The other, was more muscular, but shorter - he wore bikini and string bikini styles. My brother wore boxer briefs.

I had several roommates through six years of college. Most wore white or colored briefs. Jockey Life low-rise were most prevalent. I know one roommate had several JC Penney versions of Jockey Elance bikinis in his drawer because I snooped one time.

My time with "roommates" ended around 96 or 97...so when I went to grad school and after, I always had my own place. I did live with a couple of women over the years who seemed to enjoy my wardrobe.

I never saw my roommates underwear in college. But after when I had an apartment with 2 roommates (male and female) her thongs would always be showing above her jeans, so, many many times when they weren’t home I would sift through her panty drawer and wear them around the apartment. All she owned were satin stringy thongs. Ah the good old days! These are what her drawer was full

My college roommate was my friend from HS. I can only recall seeing his underwear a handful of times and it was a mostly boxer briefs. During this time I was discovering men’s thongs and wore them in secret but to my roommate i would only be seen in boxer briefs. This was the early 2000’s.

It really is pretty striking how fast the boxer brief came into fashion. I've mentioned elsewhere but just to emphasize that contrast -- when I was in high school, there were NO boxers of any kind, at least that I can recall. In college, there were some, but still a minority. It was a lot of tighty-whities, some colored briefs, and a fair number of bikinis. My roommate my freshman year, when I was living in a dorm, wore bikinis and string bikinis, as did I. My roommate off campus in subsequent years was mostly low-rise and bikinis.

I think the other thing that's striking is that apparent privacy that roommates had for you guys but not really for me, especially freshman year in the dorm, when we were literally in the same room. So seeing each other in our underwear was at least a daily, if not multiple times daily, occurrence. Off campus, it was less often but still many times per week.

I can certainly understand it in a mixed-house setting for sure -- it makes perfect sense! But I was just thinking a lot about the contrast and how quickly things changed. I have to think when I was in college that the breakdown of preferences that I saw in the early and mid-90s probably looked pretty much the same for decades prior, but in a few years after that, it seemed completely different!

I had a few roommates in college. I never really noticed it, but only for one of them. He just wore mostly boxers (which were really popular at the time in the mid-2000s) and sometimes tighty whities.

I think I also wore mostly boxers and boxer briefs around the same time.
