Had worn cotton fabric most of my life but recently started sweating a lot and the fabric would get caught in my butt and I consistently have to pick it out rather getting up out of chair or bending over etc
I'm looking at two different types of underwear from the same brand.
One is 82% Polyester and 18% Spandex, the other one is 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex.
They both have moisture wicking fabric, the 82%/18% uses hyper cooling while the 90%/10% uses natural cooling. Wasit band is the same.
Would it be more comfortable and less like to get in my butt with more spandex or less spandex when combined with polyester.
I've heard both products breathe well so sweat will not be as bad but I'm looking for the underwear to be tighter in the back and not loose like cotton where it gets stuck.
Do you recommend more spandex or less spandex in this situation? If anyone has idea for better material you can link me but this is a really good brand and more expensive as its in their performance category.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will get lots of helpful advice from the members. You don't mention what style of underwear you're looking for, so for the purpose of this reply I'll assume it's briefs. When you say you have to pick the fabric out of your butt, do you mean like a wedgie when the edge of the garment that normally cups your butt cheeks moves in towards your crack, or is it the middle of your garment that gathers between your cheeks? I wonder if a smaller size would help by reducing the amount of fabric in the first place?advice wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 2:07 am Had worn cotton fabric most of my life but recently started sweating a lot and the fabric would get caught in my butt and I consistently have to pick it out rather getting up out of chair or bending over etc

By coincidence, I recently purchased several string bikinis from two different companies. The first were the brand JJSOX and the material was 95% modal and 5% spandex and felt like a light cotton. The second were an unknown brand from China and the material was 85% polyamide and 15% spandex and had more of a nylon type feel. Of the two, I would say the unknown brand with the extra spandex stayed in place better and felt super smooth when I ran my hand over my butt.I guess my limited comparison would suggest that more spandex works best. I bought these on Ebay and could give you the seller's name if you were interested in seeing what they look like? Good luck in finding what works best for you.
Re: Underwear help
Thank you for the warm welcome and the quick reply on top of it. So I have been wearing the Ethika brand for well over a year but had recently noticed sweating more and the cotton getting stuck. The way you describe the fabric out of the butt seems like a mixture of both. If I were to be sitting down and I stand up it either is stuck in there or more often it will come out but I notice it. Bending over same thing but it even comes out more. There have been times where it is literally in between the crack and I have to pull it out consistently throughout the day. I do believe it's a cotton issue.TANGA TANGA wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 3:54 amWelcome to the forum. https://www.ethika.com/s/UMS512/micro-mesh-black
https://www.ethika.com/s/UMS647/black-p ... odal-lurex
These are the three I am looking at. Is modal similar to cotton where the issue might persist. In my original post I am comparing the first two links. The subzero has more spandex and has a hyper cooling instead of a natural cooling.
Judging from your post you think subzero would be the best to avoid anything going up my butt and being the best fit? What would you say is the difference between 18% spandex and 10% spandex with both options containing polyester as the other fabric.
Do you feel there would be a better underwear fabric than polyester and spandex because from what I have read it is a really good combination of fabrics.
Not doing cotton anymore and if modal is just a better cotton not interested either. Have also seen polyester with elastane..elastane and spandex are quite similar and for my issue would spandex be better than elastane? What does elastane and spandex because since I've gotten away from cotton there is no ride up or bunch up on my privates. Spandex or Elastane for underwear in your opinion?
Have read about nylon too..not sure.
As you can tell, underwear being caught in my butt rather it comes out or not bugs the hell out of me, and I even get intrusive thoughts when I'm sitting down that it is stuck in there. Definitely some OCD.

Re: Underwear help
Having checked out the ethika site and the style of underwear you are looking at, I realise I'm probably the least qualified member of the forum to offer you advice. When it comes to underwear, my motto is the briefer the better, so it's mostly g-strings for me and an occasional thong, string bikini or jock if I fancy a change. Just looking at those tight compression trunks made me sweat, so I can only imagine how hot they become under trousers.lol. Is that the only style you wear, or do you have briefs etc as well? There are guys on the forum who wear leggings and running tights who will know what the best materials are for your needs. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.advice wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 4:41 amThank you for the warm welcome and the quick reply on top of it. Re: Underwear help
First, have you had this recent sweating checked medically. It could be a sign of something serious, since it has just started, even something as simple as getting more anxiety over something.
As to your other points, just keep in mind that my experience is with much smaller styles than what you are discussing.
Modal is not cotton in any way, but is another natural fabric and is moisture absorbing like cotton. It is made from beech trees. Bamboo is another natural fibre.
Lycra/spandex/elastane (and other European spellings of elastane) are polyurethanes and are added to the base fibre in varying proportions for their natural stretchiness. All fibres have some stretch, it's just that polyurethanes have more and add to the comfort of the garment. It is a hot fabric though, which is why it's only used in small amounts. Lycra is a branded version, the others are similar generic versions.
The various nylons are polyamides, and polyester, make two groups of synthetic fibres that are commonly used for clothing and swimwear. As you have said, they naturally wick away any moisture, and tend to be cooler than cotton. Of course, part of the reason for the coolness of smaller underwear is that there is just less fabric anyway and so that lets the skin cool more easily.
For what you wear, I'd go for the 90:10 polyester blend first as there should be sufficient stretch in the garment to be comfortable.

Re: Underwear help
I'm a sweater, so I usually aim to buy synthetic blended fabrics of any kind. I never pay much attention to the actual blend percentages. I mainly make sure it isn't cotton. The pairs that I have that are cotton or blended cotton are reserved for cooler weather. So I would think either would be better than cotton. Like others I prefer skimpier styles, which help with coolness too.
