Small Conversation

Post by Anthony5362 »

I had a good small conversation with a salesperson at Dillard’s a few weeks ago. So let me tell you this I was browsing there website and came across their Murano Mens 3 Pack of thongs which I have tried before but instead of $26 they were $9.99 heck yeah. So I go to store get it and check out. Well after work next day I start thinking dang I should of got two packs and what if they discontinue then crap so after work I will get one more pack. So anyway I go about an hour before they close to get the pack of thongs and as usual not many sales people on floor so I manage to find this one salesperson in the suits section helping someone while I wait for him to check me out. He was older Hispanic gentleman super nice in his 50S early 60s and asked me if I was ready to check out I said yes and I hand him the box of thong and he notices it and says. “ these look this on the front and this is on the back” he is pointing to the package and tbh I was at first confused like what he is talking about and then he said if you don’t like them you can return them. I said ah okay no I’m sure they will be good. He then says “I only say cause I bought those before and realized I got the wrong ones” I said oh okay I see haha no worries as long as they are not jockstraps than we’re okay. He said “no they aren’t jockstraps but thongs” I said yeah and he then said well “ if they aren’t the ones you want you have few days to return if you bought wrong ones”. I said “oh no worries I won’t return them your good… I actually wear that style of underwear.” He then said “ ah okay I see so you have tried?!” I said yes actually I have been wearing thongs since I was 13. He then says “ah okay so you are used to them that’s nice” he then handed me the bag and said we’ll have a good day and enjoy your thongs young man!

It was a nice unexpected small conversation. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them? Also sorry if posted in wrong place I figured since I happened at store I put under brick and mortar.

Anthony, I bought a pack of Dillard's Murano thongs a while back (maybe last Christmas) and posted about them on the thong forum here. That was very nice of the gentleman to make positive small talk with you! Honestly, I'd be pretty disappointed in any salesperson that came across with mocking tone at a customer for buying something sold in the store. When I bought mine the girl that checked me out didn't say anything about it.

I'm curious how you like the Murano thongs? I felt like the ones in my size were to tight and had to return and buy the next size up. I wear them on a regular basis but feel like the pouch and tail aren't the best fit on me. I wear the black and navy ones.

Hi Swimmer78

Yes it was a nice and pleasant conversation I had with him unexpectedly. For the most part when I purchase any thong in store the salesperson doesn’t really say anything so it was surprising to me when he made did. As far as the murano thongs they are good I wouldn’t say the best but for three pairs at 9.99 it’s not bad at all. For their brand I would say to go up a size since it does seem like it runs smaller

Sounds to me like the store clerk just wanted to make you aware that you were buying thongs. I can see how some customers could grab a pack of thongs, thinking they are regular bikini briefs. The display on the pack usually only shows the front of the brief and not the back, so unless you study it closely, you may not realize that you are buying thongs. I actually did that once. I bought thongs, not realizing it and took them home, only to realize my mistake when I opened the package.

Your right! Especially since it seems all underwear packaging looks the same now a days.

I think the people at Dillards are pretty nice and probably don’t care too much about underwear preferences. When I decided to switch over to thongs almost exclusively I went to Dillards to purchase a 3-pack of Muranos in 2019. I bought according to the size chart and they were a little tight in the waist. When I went to exchange for a large the lady at the counter was very pleasant and confirmed that the sizing ran a little small. She told me, “I hope you find these to work better” or something along those lines and wished me a good day. Didn’t feel judged or embarrassed. Then again I had turned 40 at the time and didn’t really give a crap what people thought of my undies. 😂

I think due mainly for hygiene reasons, most stores have a no returns policy when it comes to underwear and possibly swimwear unless they are unworn, although I'm not sure how they can tell unless there is visible evidence. Sounds like your guy may have had customers in the past bringing back thongs that were bought by mistake and was just making sure that you knew what you were getting. Been decades since I bought skimpy undies in a store and I don't recall having conversations with any of the people at the checkout, but I do remember one guy smiling as he scanned some very skimpy thongs in my basket(lol). Back then I was always a bit embarrassed while waiting to be served.

About 10 years back I was on a work trip in Hong Kong. Chose to pass an hour wandering the Ferry Terminal shopping mall on the Kowloon side of the harbour. Spotted the Hom store so went in. It was tiny and I was the only customer with about 4 female assistants watching. The inevitable "can I help you find something sir?" got asked. So I replied that I was looking for some strings. We had a little conversation about how that was my favourite style when she tried to show me other briefs and trunks on upsell. I think my impression at the time was that they were a little surprised by my openness ... but hey, they stocked thongs so they've got to get guys buying them!

Every time I go shopping for thongs, I try to strike a conversation with a female clerk. If i see a female clerk, I play dumb and ask if she can give me any recommendations. Tbh, I know what I want, but I still want some female input when purchasing a thong.
