The word “Thong”

Post by thong365 »

Does anyone enjoy people using the word “thong” in general
talk / discussion ?

i specifically enjoy people relating to it.

i wondered if anyone shared the same fixation.

Don't like to hear it when preceded by the word man because it is always used in a derogatory way and also tends to be used wrongly to describe speedos, bikinis and anything that appears skimpy in the eyes of some people. Happy to use it when called upon to promote the wearing of them as perfectly normal for men, just as much as for women. Will also suggest to guys on social media etc that a thong could be a good alternative to what they usually wear. Don't think twice about hanging them(or in my case G-strings) out on the washing line for neighbours and passers by to see. So I guess I like to use and hear the word, but only in a positive way.

You know, it's great that you asked this because it brings me to something. I actually really, REALLY, think that the norm shouldn't just be "thongs" anymore, but specifying "men's thongs" in talk, say internet comments, posts or even in normal talk. I enjoy talking about thongs openly in this forum, but I notice the ones NOT in the know generally think of the female undergarment when a man might say "Oh I wear thongs".

Just a hunch, but I think if we can do our part in this, maybe the kneejerk reaction will be "Oh! Mens?? Thong's?" ("they make some for men?" "ohh MENS thongs! (not women's)) instead of any negative mental image. More genuine curiosity, opening the avenue for whatever education we'd share with them! Even if just a little less negative, progress is progress. : )

"Men's thongs" > "thong", "manthong" my 2c. Any thoughts on this angle?

(Btw, not ragging on anyone's usage of just "thong" here in the forum hah, we're all in the know here!)

I'm old enough that the first thing that the word "thongs" brings to my mind is footwear. When I was a kid, we didn't wear flip flops, we wore thongs. After 30 or so years of hearing "thong" referring to underwear for men or women, I'm finally to the point where I don't first think of footwear.

I have this with the word "bikini." Not always crazy about the word "speedo" because I've heard it used so many times in a negative context. But when it's used positively I like it. I especially like when it's said to me as "your speedo" or "your bikini."

Funny aside: my mom "caught" me sunbathing in high school in a bikini/speedo. I thought she would be home later. Anyway she sang the "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny" song, but changed the lyrics so it was "He...wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny orange and black striped bikini." I was really embarrassed at the time but I knew it was coming from a good-natured supportive place.
