Underwear choice and hospital stay
Underwear choice and hospital stay
This topic seems weird, but I have to have a medical procedure in November and will have to be in the hospital for 5 days. I plan to only pack my boxer briefs while I am there. While I am shy about who sees my underwear choice I am not ashamed of them. However I feel boxer briefs will provide me more modesty in the hospital post surgery. Has anyone had an occasion where they had to be in the hospital (or similar situation) and used boxers/boxer briefs instead of bikinis or thongs? Or just continued with what you wear and said the heck with it ?

First of all, David, I'm sure I speak for all on the forum in wishing you good luck for your forthcoming stay in hospital and a speedy recovery. I've been lucky in my adult life to spend no more than an overnight stay in hospital after an operation, so my choice of underwear was not really an issue. I think it depends on the area of your body that is being operated on that might decide the style of your underwear. You wouldn't want to wear a thong if you've had surgery for piles, but you might be advised to wear a tight bikini brief after a vasectomy(I'm no doctor so don't take my word for it)lol. Are you likely to be wearing a hospital gown that might show of your bum, or are pyjamas an option? I think you just have to go with what you will feel comfortable with and won't add extra anxiety to that which you may already be feeling at the time of your stay.David_NC wrote: Thu Oct 14, 2021 12:24 pm This topic seems weird, but I have to have a medical procedure in November and will have to be in the hospital for 5 days. Good luck and best wishes from all your forum friends! x

Like Tanga Tanga said what keeps stress down is the way to go. I also haven't had an extended hospital stay. Stayed one night for observation and was able to wear my pants with the hospital gown. Quite a few years ago I had knee surgery (outpatient) and was able to wear underwear under the gown for the operation and wore a bikini. Was somewhat of a conservative bikini cut. Doctor visits I normally wear bikinis if I know they'll be seen too. You could always pack a bikini, so if you feel like one you can pull it out. I think people in the medical field are normally pretty professional about it all. Good luck with the procedure.

Re: Underwear choice and hospital stay
Does anyone remember a Dr Markin, who up until a year ago used to contribute to this forum and kept us entertained with his thong wearing exploits at the hospital he worked in? For those of you who missed out, he was an exhibitionist who wore thongs under his white scrubs which were clearly visible to the people he worked with, so much so, that according to him, the nurses would place bets on what colour thong he would be wearing on any given day. Sadly for us, his final post stated that he had more or less given up wearing underwear in favour of going commando, which might explain why he stopped participating in the forum. The reason I mention him in relation to this topic is because I wonder how David would react if the surgeon carrying out his operation was clearly wearing a thong, G-string or string bikini under his scrubs? Would he be wishing he had braved a thong, rather than the safe boxer briefs? lol.

It’s open heart surgery, thus I will have a catheter so I won’t be wearing any underwear during the surgery, icu stay and probably not until I get the cath out. After that I’ll be required to walk around which is why I’m opting for boxer briefs since I will have to walk around the hospital floor. And hospital gowns aren’t the most wonderful clothing item to wear.

Dave: Up to this point, I think we all took a light-hearted approach, in thinking that your procedure was perhaps a less-serious one. That is not the case, and I'm sure I speak for the other members in telling you that we are holding you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Certainly, your choice of boxers in your post-recovery phase sounds reasonable. (You are definitely right about the "Exposure Element" of hospital gowns!) You will be taking things a step at a time for some time to come; the last thing you need is ANY concern about your appearance and degree of exposure! Please keep us posted about your recovery when you feel like posting again. You are not alone as you face this challenge!

Dear David. When you first mentioned your impending medical procedure with an expected stay in hospital of five days, like Microbikiniman said, I think we all thought it was nothing too major, and I thought it might be something of a personal nature downstairs that people tend not to talk about. To say I'm shocked that it's heart related would be an understatement, and more so that you will be in an ICU as part of your recovery. Five days doesn't seem sufficient time to be back out, and I can't believe you were so worried about what underwear to take with you that you posted it on the forum! As has already been said elsewhere, all our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family as you face this difficult time. xDavid_NC wrote: Sat Oct 16, 2021 12:14 pm It’s open heart surgery, thus I will have a catheter so I won’t be wearing any underwear during the surgery, icu stay and probably not until I get the cath out. I do recall Dr Markin and his stories of his scrubs. I didn’t pay attention to my surgeon to see if I could see an underwear line, i’ll have to take better note next time. But for me boxer briefs will be a better choice. Thank y’all for your concern, I’m trying to keep a positive outlook on the upcoming surgery
A side note about 10 years ago I had to go to a conference for work and would be required to share a room, I selected only boxer briefs for this trip since I didn’t want a coworker seeing my bikini underwear, I wasn’t wearing thongs regularly then. I’m fortunate, now any business trips I’m allowed a private room due to my years with the company. BUT I still don’t know if I would be brave enough for bikinis knowing i would sharing a room

I don't know your situation, and I have never been in hospital, but for me, being Private (I pay medical insurance) so a room to myself, I'd wear my usual string bikinis even if it meant a bit of public viewing. I don't know what I'd do if I was Public (so a four bed, mixed sex, ward section). I only have string bikinis, so whether I'd wear them, or get boxers just for the hospital stay, is interesting. Not sure I'd commit to an exact answer just yet.
Well, best of luck with this whole operation, and the rehab after. Major procedures like this are trying, to put it mildly.
