Appropriate age for young thong wearer

I was cycle camping in France a few years back, After going past Vannes I found a campsite on a small peninsula. At reception they asked if my tent was small, I confirmed that it was and they said good, we have a small patch of grass outside the toilet block, everything else is occupied.
The pitch wasn't that bad, I got the tent up, changed from cycle shorts into speedos and headed for the pool. After completing a few lengths I crashed out exhausted on a sun lounger in the soft evening sunlight. I lay back my eyes not quite closed but not quite focused.
Suddenly my eyes focused on the top of the water slide that happened to be in my line of sight, I'd just seen a boy in a thong. He'd slid down the water slide into the pool below, the next boy approached the water slide also in a thong and slid down, they were all doing it, all the boys from 8-13.
As they approached the water slide they'd tuck their speedos into a thong and slide down faster on bare butts.
Later I was talking to an English family with a 9 yo son, he admitted that when he arrived at the campsite he'd been too shy to tuck his speedos into a thong on the water slide but once he'd see how much faster the other boys went he gave it a try and had carried on doing it and didn't care who saw him.

That's great!! First of all it's great that those boys were comfortable enough to be swimming in speedos in the first place and even better that they were confident enough to roll them into a thong! I wish more guys were comfortable wearing thongs at the beach/pool/ whatever outdoors!

I think it also helps their confidence because they see men wearing speedos. In France, men are legally required to wear tight swimwear, like swim briefs/speedos. American style swim shorts are not considered hygienic as they can be used for streetwear.

Then "more speed more fun and nothin else care"
At that age if I'd noticed this, I would face the waterslide naked

Dave, the "French Requirement" has me fanticizing about the (bad word! ) "influencers" having both a cow and meltdown (complete with bulging eyes and f-bombs) when this law is waved in front of them! (Am I nasty? You bet! )

Earlier that day cycling from the centre of Brittany to the South coast I found myself riding very minor single track roads with no one about but tractors harvesting in the distance. I passed a massive 6' long green snake, we don't have snakes like this in England, I didn't know if it was venomous or aggressive but it looked dead. Wearing cycle shoes and Lycra shorts I didn't want to confirm that it was actually dead and gave it a wide berth.
It got hotter, my water bottles emptied bit by bit, I passed occasional houses but there were no people about. I grew thirsty.
In the distance I saw a phone mast, where there's a phone mast there's people and something to drink. I came closer and saw the top of a water slide, where there's a water slide there's a swimming pool and something to drink. I arrived at the pool and pushed the mountain bike into an outdoor cafeteria pool viewing area. The entire population of the district appeared to be in the outdoor swimming pool, all the men and boys in speedos or bikini briefs. Having been entirely alone for so many hours it was almost a culture shock. They all looked tanned, happy and so appropriate in brief Lycra swimwear. There were no hideous baggy shorts flapping around like soggy old curtains.
After refilling my cycle water bottles I sat at a table overlooking the pool with a glass of cool Coca Cola with ice in my hand, and watched the entire population of the district having fun in the water in the summer sunshine.

When I got home I looked up the green snake online, it's called a Green Snake and they grow to 6' long, harmless to humans but they eat mice etc. The limit of their Northern range is about the centre of Brittany. Crossing that line you go from warm to hot in summer.
