Surprised by another person's underwear

Have you ever been surprised by discovering someone else's underwear choice? I have two very simple stories that come to mind.

First, a friend of mine's husband had started building furniture in his retirement. At the time he was probably 55+ years old, he is American his wife Italian - well she wanted to show off the work her husband had done - building them new bedroom furniture for their anniversary. She proceeded to open a drawer to his dresser to show me how well he constructed the dovetail, it happened to be his underwear drawer and it was very neat and organized, but it was all bikini underwear - I would not have suspected him to wear bikini.

Second, another friend and her husband has just bought a camper and were going on vacation. I had stopped by to return something and she wanted to show it off their new purchase. As she was showing me around the camper, we entered the bedroom and on the bed were a red pair and black pair of silky bikini briefs; she was caught off guard and said these are for their private time and threw them in a drawer - I never made a comment and just let it go.

Italian women generally appear to be cool with their men wearing speedos on the beach, so it wouldn't be a surprise to discover they like their men to wear bikini underwear.

Yeah, in many parts of the world, women don't have an issue with men wearing speedos or bikini underwear.

Hmmm....not sure about "surprised" per se...I have been surprised from time to time, I guess, although this would only relate to guys that I've seen (I kind of expect a girl to be wearing a thong or close these days...) but when I first met my roommate freshman year, he opened up the room door and was wearing a short t-shirt from the football team and black string bikini briefs, rubbing his eyes, not knowing that it was like 1 in the afternoon (he had had a late night ) -- he was an African American defensive back. His eyes got real wide when he saw me and then my folks, who were with me at the time. After seeing his bikinis, my dad looked over at me and said, "well, I guess you'll fit in pretty well around here."

Pennbikini you have some great stories/memories of you and others in bikini underwear - I've enjoyed reading them. Your story reminds me of one, I posted else where so just the short version here - my older brother had two friends over to our pool (i was probably 10 he was 19) and I had to walk past his room to get to mine - and the door was wide open and one of the buddies was changing and was standing in his room in just a string bikini - he didn't see me but I certainly saw him.

Thank you, David_NC. I think I was just growing up in the right place at the right time, catching the end of the wave of the late 80s and into the 90s. I used to never be the only one in bikinis or string bikinis, though I guess eventually became that. I just always kept the faith! Now, I guess the pendulum is swinging back in the direction of less modesty!

The person I was most surprised by their underwear was my Baptist pastor growing up….his son was my age and we were friends and had multiple sleepovers…their laundry room was close to the bathroom and shower….our pastor wore Brut Bikinis and String Bikinis in multiple colors! My friend (his son) wore fashion hanes briefs and low rise Hanes!

I have to say my older brother, when i was younger I was curious fellow and well a snoop. I went into his room and found jockey elance bikini's which was not a surprise, what was a surprise was a black thong (i think from JCP) and later i found black satin (kinda cheap) string bikini, full bikini, and black thong. They were men's underwear (had a pouch). Now that i am older i would love to ask him about it, or find out what pairs he wears now!

Americans seem to be the only ones who are uptight about what their men wear. As long as they're wearing Y-fronts or boxer briefs, nobody cares, but G-d forbid, a man wears a bikini or thong... that's when everybody looses their sht!

Three people who I never expected to be thong wearers.

First was my homeroom teacher in 9th grade. One day, he was going around the classroom checking up on each student. While he was helping a student in front of me, his backside was turned toward me and my friends. One of my friends pointed out that our teacher was wearing a thong. Indeed, it looked like he was wearing a wide back thong. We all had a laugh at the time, but we never gave him any trouble over it.

Second was an elderly lady at my church. I was in the kitchen serving soup when she came in looking for some bowls. She bent down to grab some bowls from a lower shelf, and lo and behold her white floral thong was showing through her white linen trousers. It definitely caught me off guard.

Lastly, there is this girl in my young adult group at church who is very outgoing and flashy. One time, she came to church wearing a black tank top and white trousers. Sitting behind her, I realized that her black tank top was actually a thong bodysuit. The thong lines were visible through the trousers, and they were connected to her top. This also took me by surprise as I didn't expect anyone to wear a thong bodysuit to church.
