Also what is up with everyone so afraid of the male body and it's parts. OMG! It seems that's all I hear and haven't even put a thong on yet.
Maybe with all this lives matter stuff going on we should preach MALE BODY MATTER! I'm being a smart ass or anything everyone life matters.
Just my little question/rant for the day.
Happy micro suit.
If you have children, and they have seen you wearing thongs and bikinis, they will simply grow up accepting that, that is what men wear.
Once when my middle child was about 4 years-old, she walked into the bathroom while I was in there. At the moment, I had not dressed myself for the day yet (it was early in the AM at the time) and I was still wearing nothing buy my fruit-of-the loom men's purple cotton bikini briefs that I had slept in all night. She immediately shouted, "Daddy's wearing purple panties!" I calmly explained to her that they were men's underwear and that some boys prefer to wear bikinis too.

I guess I need to be more clear in my question. I'm talking about swimsuits in public view like pools and beaches or backyards. When I ask hotels about the swimsuits policy they always say when kids are around. My wife even throws that at me. Not my kids as they are grow and have families of their own. I would like something to give back to the negativity that it doesn't effect kids in a bad way, or not.

I'm not aware of any studies on the effect that seeing men in thongs and bikinis might have on children. But it did get me wondering if such a study had ever been carried out on women wearing thongs and bikinis and the effect it might have on children. I suppose with it being commonplace for women to be seen on beaches wearing skimpy swimwear, most children will have at some point in their young lives seen a topless woman,or one in a butt revealing thong, which may lead to a few awkward questions for their parents, but otherwise won't be a major issue. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for a man in a thong or bulge revealing bikini. Because this is not a common sight on beaches, and can provoke a hostile response from adults,it is more likely that young children will be negatively influenced by the reaction of their parents and the other adults in the area.
The recent TBD post on a suitable age for children to wear bikinis and thongs did prove that for some guys, seeing their Dad wearing bikinis and thongs was a positive influence on what they chose to wear. Sadly, the only way that more kids will grow up with a positive or even just a tolerant attitude towards men in skimpy swimwear, will be if the adult population changes their mindset on the subject.

My thoughts are the same as yours Tanga. I hear it all the time kids are around.

Hi Ralange. I know from your sadly deleted flickr account that you have a great collection of bikinis and thongs which you wear in and around the grounds of your house. Don't remember if you ever mentioned that you wore them in front of your children and grandchildren,or if it was purely in adult company? Also, have you found another outlet for posting your selfies in your swimwear?

My personal belief is, if that's what children grow up seeing their father wearing, then it just becomes common nature to them, and they will grow up thinking that it's normal that all men wear that style of underwear. Just like myself growing up, my dad wore the Y-front briefs, and until I saw two of my male cousins wearing bikini underwear, I had no idea that men's bikini existed or the men could wear them. So I'm sure that if I grew up in a house where my father wore thongs and bikinis, then I would have been in them a lot earlier instead of trading, in my Y-fronts, for bikinis when I was 14!

Personally... just my two cents in here... I blame radical feminism, which has been educating our children for the past 50 years and slowly ingrating into their minds that all men are potential rapists, and the penis is a symbol of male domination and oppression and the patriarchy, and that it should be something to be concealed, hidden and ashamed of. Also, sometime in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the prevailing attitude was that bikinis and thongs were something that only gay men wore and that if you wear thongs and bikinis, you have to be gay or a sissy. Since then, men who decide to break from the norms of Y-fronts and boxer briefs are creepy sex perverts that need to be publicly shamed.

I think this is an interesting perspective. I am very much an ally, pro female, and anti patriarchy; however, there are some sectors in radical movements that have gone waaaay too far. I also do not like rigid ideology and "isms" as they are too constraining. There is a spectrum, nuance, and complexity. A framework can help illustrate certain perspectives and phenomenon; however, there are always exceptions. They are not always the rule. I do think there can be and is a repression of the male in feminism (and even by mainline folks) that shame the male body - bellies, penises, you name it. And you are right, male body positivity has never come. All female/male/nonbinary sexuality is to be celebrated and has its place.

Also, bad behavior is bad behavior. Bad behavior manifests itself in all sorts of shape shifting ways - sexism, racism, and all sorts of otherizing and diminishing the other. Rather than there needing to be a rigid ideology around a certain phenomenon, just call bad behavior bad behavior.

The US is also repressed in many ways. Some of the repression may be tied to our early puritan origins/influence (despite the fact that the puritan movement has significantly diminished). I also think that this has continued through modern day religious groups (both extreme, mainline, and even anabaptist movements). I also think there was a backlash to the awakening in the 60's and 70s (starting in small ways in the 70s and grew in later years). I wish the 80s could have continued and men's string bikinis and thongs were in every major store.

I just wish we could normalize all or bumps, bits, loose skin, pale skin, acne skin, larger bodies, smaller bodies (for all genders), and that they would not be shamed.

I also suspect that some of the anti male / anti male thong sentiment is that they too themselves feel insecure with their own expressions do to cultural influences.

I do think we definitely need a more vocal movement of female allies to celebrate male sexuality and male expression--and it needs to be in the mainstream. I do wonder if some women do not know they like men in thongs until they actually see men in them. I've known female friends that never knew they even made thongs for men.

I do also want to acknowledge the trauma that some women have experienced. This is very real. And at the same time, it does not mean that every male is going to be like the males that hurt them. It also means that all malehood and male sexuality need to be repressed.
