Advice and recommendations

Post by SwimBriefDude93 »

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I would really appreciate some advice and recommendations.
I've worn a Speedo for a few years, a rather conservative looking one with quite full sides, and I've always wanted some swim briefs that were of higher cut, 2cm or 1.5cm.
I ended up purchasing some swim briefs that looked higher cut than what I'd worn previously.

After I'd had them delivered and tried them on, I was amused to find that I'd ordered a size too small; however I soon realised that I like the look and feel of them and how they were higher cut and slightly revealed a bit of my bum cheeks as well, similar to women's bikini briefs, and I can't wait to wear them at the pool and beach.
As such I have decided to order some micro swim briefs; so far I think that the HOM micro swim briefs and the Kiniki micro swim briefs fulfill my criteria of being higher cut and revealing a bit of the bum cheeks.

That being said I am open to suggestions if there are better ones, as long as they are appropriate for a public pool and beach and not too expensive.
One question I do have is that I am a size 40 waist and the Speedo that I've wore before is a size 38 but it still fits okay; I was wondering whether I should stick with my usual size or scale up or down in size if I want it to reveal a bit more?

Thanks.

Hi Swimbriefdude93 and a warm welcome to the forum! You are definitely in the right place. A lot of guys say to size up when it comes to swim briefs, but I always wear my size or even down one, because swim briefs are designed to fit very tight. You already know that. I'm a 34 - 36 in pants so I wear swim briefs in those sizes. I never size up with swim briefs or bikinis, they just don't fit right, plus as they get worn they will become too loose. If you want it a little cheekier in the back then maybe go a size down. Although I think what makes a mans bikini brief "cheeky" is more the cut and style than the sizing.

I really like those HOM micro briefs! That might be my next buy. Have you tried Sporti Euro briefs from Swimoutlet? I highly recommend those.

Thanks for the advice.
I've decided to order both the HOM and Kiniki micro swim briefs.
I was toying with the idea of ordering a similar size to the swim briefs I'd ordered previously as I liked how they looked; however upon trying them on again to see how they looked, I found out that if I moved in certain ways it caused some exposure in the front, not good!
As such, when ordering the micro swim briefs I have decided to order my usual size; I may want them to be "cheeky" but it's not worth risking frontal exposure over, I can always return them if they're too big.
As mentioned before, I am a 40 inch waist and I have worn a 38 inch waist Speedo that seemed to fit fine; when looking at the HOM micro swim briefs I noticed that XL measures at 37 inches and 2XL measures at 39 inches.
Similarly, the Kiniki micro swim briefs measure at 35-37 inches at L and 38-41 inches at XL.
As such I was wondering if, in this case, it is best to scale up or down an inch?

I'm currently moving house at the moment and once I'm settled I will order them.
In order to get over the initial hurdle of wearing them in public and have a bit of support, my current plan is to go swimming with a female friend of mine who I have been swimming with before and has seen me in a Speedo before.
Once I've done that, I plan on going lane swimming on my own wearing them.

Update to follow.

If you are concerned about falling out of your swim brief, may I suggest swimwear with an enhanced pouch. That is the precise reason I do not wear Speedo swimwear, no room up from for me. Some good options are Ergowear, N2N, and Clever.

Having a female friend to help ease the introduction is a great thing. I hope it all works well for you.

I second sporti euro! Although it probably doesn’t have a huge pouch either but hasn’t been an issue for me.

I have a couple of pairs of Kiniki micro briefs, and I personally find them a bit small up front, so would recommend going with regular sizing, rather than sizing down. Not only are they snug at the front, but overall mine are very tight, even at my normal size (medium). As a semi-serious lane swimmer, my favourite briefs are from Arena and they're great for that purpose. I like the looks, but they're pretty conservative compared with what a lot on here would likely wear! They're also what I'm comfortable wearing on the beach too, although the tan lines are bigger than I'd like  When I've tried swimming properly in more fashion/looks-orientated swimwear, it's not as supportive as the dedicated stuff, so your choice really depends on what you want to use it for.

It might be worth taking a look at the Speedo Solar briefs if you want something smaller than your current Speedos.
