I have a question for the seasoned swim brief wearers. I wear the boxer style swim trunks, maybe one I will have the confidence to only wear a swim brief, but for now I am thinking about purchasing a swim brief to wear under my shorts. I usually remove the built in mesh liner because they are typically not always comfortable and I’ve been wearing compression shorts instead. I’ve been looking and I would prefer to buy a simple non-flashy swim brief but not sure how to size them. Some are small, medium, large ext. but others are sizes 34, 36, 38 ext. how do you size these. For me, it depends on the brand some pants/shorts I wear a 34 some a 35 others a 36 and I usually buy a large but how should a swim brief be sized? Thank you for your help.
Re: Sizing
I go with my waist size when buying swimwear. So need to pay attention to the sizing chart just like for underwear. Then see what reviews say if there are any to help see if they run small or large. So far for me just paying attention to size charts has worked out. For me a bit of snugness is fine. I typically float around 32 and 33....more 33 of late. For Speedo, my suits are 32s and they fit well. I have no issue with wearing them for several hours. Other brands I normally go with their mediums, but some 32-33 fall into the large like some of the Australian brands I have. Sizing charts are your best bet.

Hello David.
Well, consider this, a swim brief is always going to be tight no matter what, if it is not tight accidentally they can fall off or your penis or balls could get out you know.
My best suggestions is depend how big your legs are. In my case for example I prefer wear swim thong must of the time because there is nothing tight around my leg, I have big legs and speedos or swim brief squeezes my leg more than should, so, if you have a big legs, I’ll suggest large in case you are a regular medium.

Re: Sizing
Hi David, did you get a brief yet? Im new to this forum and just saw your post. Having worn speedos for about 5 years, I can tell you the sizing has a lot to do with the purpose you're wearing them. If you are a serious swimmer you'll want a tight fit for low drag in the water. But for something more casual a slightly looser fit is more comfortable. I wear the same pants size range as you. I downsize to a 34 for swim workouts and Masters meets. That keeps my penis in place while turning at the wall and feels more secure. A 34 will feel very tight so you may want to stick to a 36 but as was said above any swim brief is going to feel tight, especially your first time.
I would suggest gettting a brief from Swimoutlet.com. Check out their iSwim or Sporti briefs. They are simple solid colors and inexpensive. The iSwim briefs will be about 3 inches wide on the sides. They are good suits for getting started with briefs and last a surprisingly long time for the low price. Another option is a square cut suit if you're not quite ready to make the jump. Youcan always wear a brief under the square cut and when you're ready take it off. Once you start wearing the briefs you will not want to go back to those awful board shorts.

Re: Sizing
Hey - swimmer78, I did end up buying two Speedo brand briefs. one a 34 and it fits but it is tight, the other a 35 (sold out of 36) and it is loser, but still tight. I cut the liner out of a couple of swim trunks and use the speedo's as the liner. I had both at the beach with me this summer, but didn't feel comfortable losing the shorts. I will have to check out swimoutlet.com, I certainly like a deal.

Great, glad to hear you got some speedo briefs! Yes it takes time and courage to don a brief at the beach. Don't give up. I have worn mine at the beach a number of times now and it still takes working up the courage. Not sure if you have access to a gym or ymca with an indoor pool during covid, but if you do wear them to the pool a few times. That's how I first wore a speedo and is perfectly acceptable. It's a good way to ease into a public setting wearing speedos.
