Purchase Your First Bikini: When? What? Where?

It would have been at the end of 8th grade. My mom and I were shopping at Macys and she let me pick out a tube of Jockey Elance Bikinis. They were white, gray and striped.

When I was about 14 my sister in law gave me a pair of string bikinis for Christmas that I opened up in front of everyone. I was very embarrassed but very excited to put them on! They felt soo sexy and I couldn't wait to get more.

Went I turned 16 and able to shop by myself I found bikinis and string bikinis at K-Mart of course (like so many others) in the little boxes with the window so you could see the colour. I remember being so nervous going to the till. When I got home I told my Mom I bought new underwear like the ones that my SIL bought me and she was like "ok ", it didn't matter to her.

I remember showing my best friend them and he was intrigued, I ended up buying him a pair of string bikinis the next time I was shopping. He liked them but it never stuck, he would wear always wear boxers.

I also remember the high school looker room, many different styles of undies. I was the guy that would change shirts then pants to keep undies under wraps. I have a very good memory of a guy would hang out in his string bikini's without a care in the world. He was in a little better shape then me, and I remember wishing I could be as confident as him in his underwear as I was shy in HS.

I tried bikinis when I was in late high school or early college. I would hide them and wash them by hand so that Mom wouldn't see them in the laundry.
When I graduated college, I moved from colored briefs to bikinis and string bikinis as my everyday underwear.

Would occasionally do laundry at my elderly Mom's to save a few quarters on apartment laundry. She would call my bikinis "panties," though they were made for men. She was OK with my choice of undies.

I think for me, back in high school in the late 80s and early 90s, the degree of "comfort" with being in underwear in the locker rooms was about as much about the wearer as it was the underwear. I was definitely in the minority in bikinis and string bikinis, but I wasn't the ONLY one. Likewise, the majority were tighty-whities, but I am recalling now that there was a spectrum of confidence with anything. At any time, I'd have walked back to the bench/locker after a shower in just my underwear, usually also with a T-shirt, sometimes a cropped one. This would have been the heyday of Jordache, Brut, Manhattan, etc.

By college, I was hanging out in my underwear in the dorm and my off-campus apartment pretty much every day.
