I was at the famous Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia recently when I had an unexpected find.
There was a souvenir shop on the esplanade selling the usual stuff like fridge magnets, hats etcetera but there just outside the entrance was a swimwear rack and at the front was a bright red men's brief displayed. It had the word BONDI in big yellow letters across the rear.
It was a proper racing style swim brief made from stretch fabric with drawstring and front lining.
The were obviously trying to mimic the lifeguard look without using the word lifeguard as that wouldn't be allowed.
It was to all intents and purposes a "sexy male lifeguard" cosplay outfit that men could just buy then change into at the public change rooms then straight onto the beach.
The owner of the shop came out for a chat when he saw my interest in them. He told me they were there their own brand which they sourced directly from suppliers in China. The sales tag simply said SOUVENIR PLUS with the shops address on the other side.
As someone who remembers how marginalised swim briefs were in the noughties it was great to see sexy men's swimsuits on display in bricks and mortar stores again.
A great addition to my collection.

Welcome to the forum. Your story reminds me of a little souvenir shop that I discovered many years ago in Mondello, Sicily. They had the usual stuff you'd expect to find in a beachfront establishment, but I was delighted to see several racks of men's swim briefs in various colours. I make a point of visiting it every time I'm over there on holiday, just to check they still stock them. I'll be there next month, so I'll post an update when I get back.
