How did you overcome the social stigmas to be more confident?

They are very clearly mens thongs, plus the are much bigger than my wifes thongs that were in the same load.

That's how my Mom found out that I wore thongs. She was helping with laundry after one of our kids was born. She did comment about "that string underwear" to which I replied "Yep, that's what I usually wear." Nothing more was said about them. I'm sure she knows that I still wear them because they have probably shown over the top of my waistband at some point.Mrthong wrote: Fri Jun 05, 2026 7:57 pm I was a lot like you, in college I bought some briefs from Aussie Bum and wore them only a hand full of times throughout the years, and prior to that I had purchased some Jockey bikini briefs but only wore those in private before finally just throwing them out. It took a supportive wife for me to try skimpy briefs again, then asking her opinion on thongs and then never looking back. I slowly started wearing thongs on a more regular basis over the course of a year from the first one I had purchased.
Here I am in year 4 or 5 of wearing thongs full time and only recently have I started to not care at all about thong slips in public or around company. I will tell you, it just takes time to get comfortable. Once you do you will realize that people really don't care.
A couple things I think helped push me along to not worrying about people finding out. Bear in mind that my wife is the only one that knows I wear thongs, bikinis, etc. (up to these points).
The first being a female friend that saw my C-in2 low rise briefs hanging up after taking a dip in the hot tub. I was not there, but my wife told me that she asked about them. To my disappointment, our friend didn't say anything other than asking if they were mine. As if she honestly didn't care and was simply just surprised since she has only ever seen me wear boxers or boxer briefs. But it definitely helped knowing she saw those skimpy briefs and couldn't care less.
More recently my mother came over to visit and ended up folding our laundry before my wife could get to it. My mom clearly had to fold my thongs (that was the only underwear of mine in there) and she hasn't said anything about it or mentioned it. Normally, if something is surprising or interesting she would bring it up to my wife and so I know she genuinely doesn't care.
I have changed in locker rooms with thongs (albeit they were pretty much or completely empty) and only had one guy friend who knows about my thongs and now I have frequently bent over in public and around others without a care in the world. I usually check to see after if it was likely that my thong would have shown and it definitely has.
All I can say is it takes time, but you will realize that it genuinely does not matter and people don't care, especially the people who you value (which is part of why you value them).
