Brick-and-mortar vs online shopping

Post by TheThongster »

After reading a few of the replies to my last post about my brick-and-mortar store experience, I’m curious about how many of us still buy from brick-and-mortar retail stores, and how many only buy online, or how many buy both ways. In spite of the embarrassing experience I had buying my first thong at a brick-and-mortar retail store, I still prefer to buy from an actual store than online, although that does limit my choices. The main reason is because online orders are sometimes mistakenly delivered to my neighbor’s house and I also share a mailbox with a tenant and other members of my household. My biggest fear is that someone will inadvertently open a package addressed to me, and discover that I wear thongs, although I know that’s not likely to happen. Does anyone else avoid online purchases for the same reason, or am I just being paranoid? Has anyone ever had anything like that happen to them, with a thong going to the wrong address, or someone else opening the package? I also prefer to see what I’m buying. I can tell by looking at the waistband and stretching it out if it will fit me. I’m also very particular about thong band width, which is not always visible in online listings.

For me it’s less about how might mistakenly receive my online order and more about picking the right product. I wish I could walk into an entire store dedicated to men’s underwear because I want to feel the materials, compare different brands/styles, and assess the colors/sheerness in real world lighting. Too often I’m buying something online that I ended not liking and want to return, but could have avoided the purchase altogether had I seen it in store.

I’ve been lucky enough to visit places in LA and Dallas that places that offer some of those characteristics, but they’re still lacking in the actual in-store experience. For one, locations themselves seem to present a more novel, party/rave, overly flamboyant type of manner…or the decorations just look cheap. They feel like walking into a Spencer’s Gifts. Like, why can’t it just look like a Nordstrom and have proper lighting? Haha.

Similarly, with that kind of look and feel, the product and brands carried are more partywear/rave wear or joke/gag gifts. Nothing higher in quality or something focused on practical daily wear.

I’m only able to buy online, there are no stores within 100 miles of me that sale the underwear I like. I do worry about the package being put in a neighbors mailbox. Or the mail carrier seeing a package and knows what it is (MeUndies) has a flashy delivery bag. I also am not able to return some purchases because a lot of time underwear has a no return policy unless there is a manufacturer flaw. But I get over it and worry less as times goes on.

Why is it a concern for you that the mail carrier delivers MeUndies?

It sounds stupid, I know MeUndies sells more than just men’s thongs. Their packages aren’t discreet about what is inside, underwear. So they know you are getting underwear but not what kind. It’s not really an issue, I just have to make sure I’m home before my wife so I can hide that I have bought more.

Oh man, I can relate. It’s difficult enough to try and grab packages that I order for my wife for her birthday and Christmas. I can’t imagine also trying to grab my underwear purchases as well.

Thanks for sharing!

Brick and mortar stores are my favorite but it’s definitely not easy finding one that carries thongs. The last time I was in a major city I went to a Dillards and they remarkably had a couple choices of thongs. I bought both the Armani and a couple packs of the Murano thongs. Loved the rush of taking them up to the counter and checking out. I find it hard shopping online because there are soooo many choices it’s hard to narrow down which ones to buy. Has anyone had any luck finding thongs at the jockey or Calvin Klein outlet stores?

I was visiting family in Los Angeles this summer and we went to the Citadel Outlets. The Calvin Klein store did not have any things in their men’s section.

I’ll have to check out a Dillard a next time I’m close to one.

Years ago it was much easier to find mens thongs at brick and mortar stores. Every major department store had at least one brand, usually the store brand like the Murano thongs at Dillards. I bought a 3-pack of those when I was traveling, but I don’t live anywhere near a Dillards, so I never bought more. Whenever I’m at an outlet mall, my first 2 stops are Calvin Klein and Jockey. I haven’t seen mens thongs at a CK store for many years. I’ve been to 3 different outlet malls this year, and all them had Jockey outlets that carried a full inventory of 3 different styles of mens thongs (cotton stretch, microfiber, and sports mesh). All of their current styles have extra wide waistbands which I really like because they have a slimming effect, and they prevent a whale tail from showing. I now have more Jockey thongs than I need.
I buy most of my thongs from adult stores, but I had to do a lot of research, since not all adult stores carry them, and what they do carry are often novelty/gag-gift thongs, which I’m not interested in. There’s also a lingerie store near me that has a large mens section. I know I can get a bigger selection and better prices online, but I really enjoy the in-store shopping experience. I love browsing through the racks of thongs to find the perfect one or two. I also like interacting with store employees. Like you, I also get a rush taking them up to the cashier.
