Re: Will thongs ever be mainstream ?
Sadly, that's a hard "NO" as long as common misconception prevails that thongs are only for gay men and sissies. I suggest subscribing to Christian Ocean (YouTube) and others like him who are fighting for thong and bikini acceptance. He is a hetero man who is married and often talks other straight guys, who wear boardshorts, into trying bikinis and thongs. Not only do they like them but quite often their girlfriends and wives are with them and they like it too!

To make male thongs more mainstream, I believe we, as thong wearers, should set an example by wearing them confidently. What I mean is that we should all strive to stay fit and look our best in a thong. Christian Ocean is a great example—he’s fit and looks fantastic in a thong. We should encourage each other to maintain a healthy lifestyle and embrace our confidence.
I say this after losing 10kg over the summer. I’ve noticed a shift in how people perceive me since shedding the weight. I still have a bit more to go, and I hope to become a better male thong ambassador next year.

I both agree with your point and take this video with a grain of salt. Yes, it would help greatly with women supporting the cause. But the opinions of 60 year olds (men and women) aren’t going to drive any significant change in the clothing/fashion industry expectations. That change is going to come from younger generations who have more buying power and more years to make purchasing decisions.kiyoothong wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 7:13 pm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph7wrd5BfwU
In order for men's thongs to become mainstream, there needs to be more support from women. Look at the comments of this Youtube video. Most of the comments are from women, and they are grossed out by thong wearing men.

+1 on younger people. Young celebs and influencers wearing thongs can boost the cause. No one seems to care what the over 40 or 50 crowd is wearing.....thonger13 wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 8:41 amI both agree with your point and take this video with a grain of salt. How did we lose both the stores and the brands? Getting name brand thongs back in these shops would really help the cause.....TheThongster wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 12:23 am I’ve been wearing thongs for many years, and in my opinion thongs have become less mainstream than they were 20-30 years ago. In the 90s and early 2000s most major department stores carried mens thongs, including Marshalls, TJMaxx, Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Macy’s, Dillards and JC Penny. Most stores stopped carrying them around the mid 2000s. Even string bikinis aren’t as common in recent years. Also, a lot of mainstream brands, like Hanes and Fruit of The Loom stopped making mens thongs.
Buying thongs in a local shop would be great.
