I was wondering if anyone has had any embarrassing or memorable experiences buying thongs from a brick-and-mortar retail store.
When I first started wearing thongs in the late 90s, most major department stores carried them, and there weren’t as many options to buy online, so your only choice was to buy from a brick-and-mortar store. This led to some embarrassing moments for me. I used to buy most of my underwear from Marshalls or TJ Maxx. I would usually buy string bikini style, but I noticed they always had mens thongs in stock. It took a while to for me to get enough nerve to actually buy one. I waited for a day when the store was less crowded, so I wouldn’t be stuck in line holding a thong for long. I picked up a Calvin Klein cotton stretch thong and walk toward the front. I held the package in a way that no one in line would see the picture or the word “thong” on the box. When I was finally next in the check out line, my heart started racing and I could feel my cheeks getting warm. The cashier was an attractive young woman in her 20s, which somehow made this purchase even more embarrassing. As I approached the register, I could feel my cheeks getting even warmer and my forehead started sweating. I never knew what blushing felt like until then. When I looked at the cashier and handed her the box, my face must have been bright red. She asked “Did you find what you were looking for?” To which I replied “yes”. Then she scanned it and set it on the counter. My hands were a little shaky when I handed her the cash and she gave me my change. She left the box on the counter in plain view of the people in line behind me and beside me while she searched behind the counter for a new package of bags. It seemed to take forever for her to get a bag. Meanwhile the box is out in plain sight. Instead of putting it in the bag right away, she looked at the front of the box again, and then turned it over to see the back, which had a rear view photo of a model wearing the thong. When she looked at me while handing me the bag, she had such a smirk on her face like she was struggling to avoid bursting out in laughter, which is probably what she did after I left. I’m sure she told all her co-workers. I’ve had similar experiences, but this was extra embarrassing, being my first thong purchase. Thinking about this experience on my drive home, I realized it was just as thrilling as it was embarrassing. When I got home, I took off my clothes and put on the thong. I spent the rest of the evening enjoying the feeling of my first thong and replaying in my mind, my experience at Marshalls. I’ve never masturbated so much in one evening as I did that night.
Years later, I still get horny thinking about it.

I had an embarrassing moment at a store also. I went to an adult superstore. I picked out a 3 pack of men’s thongs. I waited till no one was in line. I went to the register and put them on the counter. 3 ladies then got in line behind me. The cashier looked at me and you know these are non returnable. I just nodded my head yes. She took them out of the package and inspected them for flaws. I paid and as stated to walk away one of the ladies said have fun in your new undies!TheThongster wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 2:52 am I was wondering if anyone has had any embarrassing or memorable experiences buying thongs from a brick-and-mortar retail store.

I bought a CK thong from Belk (like a Macy's here in the south); the lady was probably mid-40s I was in my mid 20s. This was 20+ years ago when you could find a thong in a store around me. She was very professional, never made any comments other than enjoy your purchase. I did buy a Joe Boxer thong from k-mart - I rolled in in a tee shirt so it wasn't on display for the people near me, I don't even remember if it was a guy or girl that completed the purchase, they just tossed it in the bag without looking. I did go to a Jockey store, and the little old Asian lady looked embarrassed why they didn't carry the Jockey thong or string bikini or even Elance bikini for men in the store.

CK thong purchase (first brick and mortar thong purchase) from Macys for me in early 2000s. For who knows why, I normally procure my undies x2. I spent time scoping out the sales counters and sales people before picking up the 2 CK cotton stretch thongs. I got my nerve up, super embarrassed, made purchase and went directly home to model them in the mirror, enjoy them and enjoy my thonged self (like Thongster) for the evening.
Next day I decided didn’t love the CK thong and somehow got the nerve to return the unworn second pair. I’ve never purchased another thing again in brick and mortar environment.

Re: Experience buying from a brick-and-mortar store
I started wearing thongs when I was eleven, so it was hard for me to shop for them myself. In the beginning, I had to make my own thongs by cutting the backside of my briefs. Puberty hit me hard when I turned 13, and I felt I was old enough to shop for myself. However, I lived in the Middle East at the time, so it was difficult to find men's thongs. Fortunately, I lived in an area with many discount stores where thongs were widely sold and not very expensive. My first thong purchase was a blue spandex thong. I remember going to the discount store early in the morning and lurking around the women's section for about 10 minutes. When no one was around, I quickly picked a thong from the women's underwear section. After choosing it, I went straight to the cash register without buying anything else. I remember paying for the thong and leaving the store immediately.
I wore women's thongs until I was 16. At that point, I moved to the suburbs, where there were more high-end malls. While shopping for clothes at Debenhams, I came across a pack of Thomas Nash thongs. I had to get them right away, and I wasn’t scared anymore. All those years of buying women's thongs had given me a lot of confidence, so purchasing a pack of men's thongs was a walk in the park.
I don’t really need to go down memory lane, because I still buy my thongs in retail stores. I live in Canada now, and I usually get my thongs from Simons or adult stores. I own about 60 thongs, and all of them have been purchased in person.

Re: Experience buying from a brick-and-mortar store
A funny story I have. This happened around 2012 when Winners, a department store in Canada, carried men's thongs.
One time, I hit the jackpot because I found several Papi thongs on the rack. I got about 10 Papi thongs, and I had to get a basket because my hands were full. After putting all the thongs in the basket, I headed for the cash register.
When I arrived, there was a long line. I stood in line with a basket full of thongs. I put my jacket on top just to hide what I had in the basket. Eventually, I had to present the items to the cashier. To my dismay, the cashier started scanning the thongs one by one. She lifted each thong so that she could scan the barcode. I tried so hard to hide the thongs, but my efforts were futile because of the cashier.

Re: Experience buying from a brick-and-mortar store
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen any real selection of thongs in a brick and mortar store, I saw a few in a Jockey outlet store a few months ago but didn’t purchase any. The last time I purchased a thong in a store was from an “Adult Shop”. I found three that I liked and brought them up to the woman working the register. She looked at them. “I think you’re going to really like these. The material is really great.” She said with a big grin. She said she didn’t have a lot of men that bought thongs but wished more would. She asked if I was confident that I had the right size. When I said I was, she smiled and finished the purchase.
Overall most of my thong purchases are on line because that is the only place with a good selection and availability for thongs, especially swim thongs.
