Right now, I am on the beach and I am the only guy in a thong swimsuit. In fact, there aren't many speedos or male briefs on the beach. I do not feel too out of place, but I do wish there were more guys in thongs and speedos.

I get to the beach early and I'm usually the first one in a thong. I will go for a walk and just be friendly to folks who aren't wearing a thong. Just act normal. Most of the peeps that are there early are locals like myself so they know the area they are is minimum swimwear friendly.

Man thongs were common in the 80s and 90s but something changed. I bought my first thongs at my gym in the late 80s. Back then we wore spandex gym clothing. When I bought my first spandex shorts the sales girl asked if I had the proper underwear to go with the shorts. She showed me some thongs and told me that they were mandatory. In the locker room it was normal to wear a thong. I got hooked and I've been wearing thongs ever since but now they have almost vanished from the gym and beach. Too bad and what changed?

Welcome to the forum. Hard to know what changed, but hopefully we can help bring them back by doing our bit to promote them.

I think it will take a while before thongs for men will become mainstream. It will be a hughe step forward if thongs for men get accepted and become just a choice of swimwear for most people

I am beyond hopeful that they will become mainstream. As someone who lives in a hot climate state thongs just make so much more sense than other underwear options. I think they are slowly becoming more popular and I wish more guys would say they wear them. There are many brands producing them and they would not keep producing them if no one was buying them.

For about the last 7 years or so since I started, not so open to anyone I know, but grown more comfortable to be okay to buy, own, and risk the chance to be caught and wear them on a more so routine bases. I felt this way. (“Dr. Stone -“ ) “10 Billion Percent “百億パーセント“ feel the same way.

In order for men's thongs to become mainstream, there needs to be more support from women. Look at the comments of this Youtube video. Most of the comments are from women, and they are grossed out by thong wearing men.

I’ve been wearing thongs for many years, and in my opinion thongs have become less mainstream than they were 20-30 years ago. In the 90s and early 2000s most major department stores carried mens thongs, including Marshalls, TJMaxx, Walmart, Target, K-Mart, Macy’s, Dillards and JC Penny. Most stores stopped carrying them around the mid 2000s. Even string bikinis aren’t as common in recent years. Also, a lot of mainstream brands, like Hanes and Fruit of The Loom stopped making mens thongs.
