I see so many posts about moms or dads having fits about colored briefs or bikinis. My parents were cool with it. I think I was one of the lucky few.

You were lucky!!! With back to school shopping happening next month, did you and mom or dad or yourself buy new undies? If so, where, when and what style? I would get new FTLs in the late eighties and early nineties!! Also, what did mom call your undies? Mom called mine underpants!!

Underwear shopping was done whenever they wore out or didn't fit. It was done with mom or dad or the whole family when shopping for clothes. The place we shopped only carried white Hanes. It was a family run store. Bikinis came by luck when my sister and her boyfriend gave me a white and light blue pair. I was visiting her in Brazil. She was an exchange student. 11th grade. 1990. Mom was cool when we did the wash and I said they gave them to me. The answer was "ok" early senior year. Mom says Jamesway has underwear on sale what do you want? I say a pack of Colored and a pack of white FTL. They were Spalding low rise light blue. Light red and black. NEVER was i told bikinis or colored were inappropriate or asked why wanted them It was always called underwear. Never undies, skivies, tighty whites briefs or bikinis

Anyone whos mom dgaf is lucky. My parents would shite if they seen anything like bikinis. I've got different kinds white and colored briefs and boxer briefs. I've even got some psd and ethica but if wash day came around and the rents seen anything besides regular underwear it would be like a nuke going off at my house.
When I go shopping next mouth I'll probably wind up with new stuff but more of the same kind that I already have.

I’m a lucky one I guess. My mom didn’t care about underwear in different colors. My dad wore speedos all the time so those were normal also, along with me wearing them for swim team. My mom even bought me my second and third thong swimsuits (although she thought they were my first two…lol).

I was always too embarrassed to tell my mother I wanted to wear bikinis instead of those horrible white briefs. One day she did see them when I had them and didn't go too well. I still like them, but not as much as I used to.

My mom bought me a pair of leopard print Speedos when I was a kid, I don't remember her reason why, but it definitely was not common at all where I grew up at. I would mostly just wear them in our backyard pool... maybe the reason was because I was using so much shorts and causing a lot of laundry hah.

She also got me different colored briefs, along with white. I never really thought anything of it. Eventually I wore boxers, bikinis and others in my late teens/young adults.

I'm glad you mentioned that your dad wore Speedos, since mothers normally buy clothes for their boys to be durable, and functional. They tend to think of "fashion" being for women or if men are fashionable, it is for a special occasion. But if the father's underwear is different colors, then the mothers don't mind buying different colors for their sons.

I used to go on trips and would share a hotel room with a buddy to keep costs down. Through the years, while he was single he wore plain droopy underwear. They were too stretched out to be called tighty whiteys. However, after he got married his wife bought him colorful boxer briefs. To him, all underwear was the same, but he did like that his wife wanted to see him in better clothing.

As for me, I rarely buy white briefs, unless they are really brief. My drawers contain just about every imaginable type of male underwear. I prefer jockstraps when the weather is warmer, but need to cover my ass when it is cold out. Below 20 degrees, I need long johns.

It was actually my mother who brought up the subject of trying bikini underwear when I was 14 years old. We were at K mart 1 day and in the men's section. And suddenly she grabbed a package of Hang Ten bikini underwear and asked me if I wanted to try them instead if the Y fronts she has always bought for me. I jumped at the chance and said yes. That was 39 years ago, and I NEVER went back to wearing huge, baggy Y fronts ever again!
