The beginning of each season I know I will be the only man wearing a thong at my local beaches. Funny thing is, it was wearing a thong that attracted people to me. Now they are friends and we all spend the days together at the beach a few times a week. These days the only time I get anxious is when visiting a beach I haven’t been to before. I’ll check out the vibe before stripping down to my thong. At resorts and hotels I have less hesitation. Nonetheless, I know I will be the only man in a thong the vast majority of the time no matter where I am.
What is it about resorts and hotels that makes you less hesitant?
Unlike my Local beaches where there are pretty steady regulars that show up, a resort/hotel has people that come and go. As a result there seems to be much less judgement that occurs. Everyone knows they will be there for a short time. For me that means there is a more openness and willingness to let things be.
That reminds me of the time I went to an out of town event last October at a hotel. I had been going to the same event and it had been taking place at the same hotel so I knew it had a pool. This time I brought two of my bikini swimsuits since I wanted to go for a swim in them. Although many of the people at the event were also my friends or at least knew me somewhat, I decided to go to the pool late in the evening when there were fewer people and it was darker.

What was only going to be an hour swim turned into 2.5 hours. I had the courage of asking another person in the pool to take a full body photo of me with my phone while I was in my suit. About two months later, however, I went to another local event for the same hobby. It was a relatively small gathering. In it, I saw the same person whom I asked to take a photo of me and did not seem to recognize me.

I was thinking of going to a similar out of town event that has a very large number of attendees at another hotel and take my speedos there, but due to being laid off recently I might not go. If I was, I would wear them more openly at their pool and at daytime.

I did the late night swim at a hotel last month while I was on a work trip. Even though the hotel was full, I was the only one at the pool for the last hour and a half before it closed. I was kind of bummed and relieved at the same time. Since there were people I couldn’t work on my confidence. So instead I took a couple of walks around the pool itself before getting into the hot tub.I could see right into the lobby but I doubt anyone could have seen me through the window because it was so dark. I’m sure someone could have from the rooms above though.

That’s awesome you were able to ask someone to take your photo. I think that fact that this person didn’t recognize you only reinforces the idea that no one is really paying any mind to what we’re wearing.

To be fair, the people who were attending the event I was talking about tend to be more open-minded than the general public. A man in a speedo at a pool was one of the least scandalous things at that event.

Yeah, I worry about that, too - seeing people I know. I'd wear a swim thong on vacation, with strangers around, but not at local beaches or pools. A Speedo, probably, but not a swim thong :(

I feel the same way. Wearing a bikini or a thong at a local beach would be awkward. But wearing one when on vacation elsewhere, where no one except my wife and stepdaughter know me, sounds more relaxing. I hope to find out when on vacation this summer.

I understand that most of us do not want to run into people we know while we are at the beach. Many of us would rather wear a thong while on vacation. However, there is some risk when visiting a new place, and it might actually be safer to go to a beach that you are familiar with.

Here’s a story for you. Last summer, I went to Venice, Italy, and visited a beach that was a ferry ride away from the main city. The entrance was wide open, so I assumed it was a free public beach. I found a spot and stripped down to my thong swimsuit. About 30 minutes later, a staff member approached me and asked if I had a ticket. It turns out the beach was private, and I needed a ticket to stay.

You may not know the rules when you are in a foreign country. So actually, it might be better to go to a local beach when you're wearing a thong in public for the first time.

As of now, I still whether to wear a square cut suit, bikini, or thong. Which one depends on if I keep working out and which my wife prefers I wear. I’ve worn the square cut in Vegas before so that’s not a big deal. I’m kinda hoping to try either a bikini/posing suit or thong. I will keep you posted on how it goes.
