Oh, I'll be quick because I posted this elsewhere, but basically, I was in 9th grade, autumn, and had just "converted" to bikini briefs. It was a HOT September and this would have been in the late 80s. I was on my bed reading something with a fan and open window, wearing string bikinis (I think it was Jordache, but can't quite recall) and a cut-off Reebok or Adidas t-shirt or something. He lost his mind, freaked out, lectured, etc. Questioned my mom as to what she let me buy, etc. He had to adjust.

When I started wearing briefs in my late 20's I immediately went for black ones, but by my 4th or 5th pair I decided to switch it up and try blue. About half of what's in my underwear drawer now is black, but I have light blue, dark blue, teal, lime green, dark green, red, and grey ones in there as well. Have never worn white undies before though, and that's probably the only colour I'd be averse to

When I was a teenager I worked in a Korvettes Dept store (long since all their stores closed). At that time I wore white Hanes or Jockey brand briefs, as that was the only choice other than loose boxers. One day I noticed that they added colored nylon briefs to their underwear dept and I purchased a blue and a red pair. While the nylon felt sexy on, they did not handle sweat well. When i started college I joined a fraternity. One night we decided to play strip poker in our frat house (both men and women). It was not long before I had to strip off my pants down to the blue nylon briefs I had on. One of the guys made a comment about my sexy underwear, and I was a little embarrassed at the time. Later that night we went out for a late bite at a local diner, and we ran into some other friends. Don't you know my blue briefs were the topic of conversation most of that night! I was the very first of the guys I knew, or those I saw in the locker room, to wear colored underwear. I rarely wore white underwear after that.

I started wearing colorful bikini style underwear when I was 14. I had been working on a farm for the summer and was getting paid. So, part of those paychecks went to buying the smallest men’s underwear I could find. By today’s standards the colors were a bit muted with the basic black, blue and red. By this time I was doing my own laundry and thought this type of underwear would be ok as long as my mother didn’t find out. Unfortunately it wasn’t long before she discovered my little secret stash of undies. She blew her top upon finding my new underwear. I was told in no uncertain terms that boy and men DO NOT wear this type of underwear. Of course this went to my father who wasn’t real pleased but was more rational. He suggested I wear the traditional underwear and wait until I was out of the house to make different choices. I stood my ground and with the disapproval of my parents wore what I liked. This went for swimwear too, tiny bikini briefs often pulled up to show as much cheek as possible. Needless to say, I soon was looking for skimpier underwear and swimwear. It wasn’t until I moved out of the home that I began wearing thongs. But, since I was able to purchase my own underwear I’ve never again wore white.

I got my first colored undies in 1972 or 1973 when I was a freshman in high school. I think they were Jockey bikini briefs but can't be sure. One of my best friends (same age) also wore them so that was encouraging for me. This was back when low-rise jeans were popular for guys so it was fun to wear colored undies with those jeans! I used to get comments about it but I didn't really care. If you open my underwear drawers mow it looks like someone when crazy with one of those paint spinner things--there's so much color!

I think I had a pair of blue briefs when I was about 16. For some odd reason, I only wanted to wear white briefs. I now wear mostly boxer briefs, but I do keep a few colored briefs when I wear my short running shorts that have a 1" inseam.

Just interesting to read this posting and all the people who had to hide their underwear choice from their parents. (My timepoint for this is about 7th grade)

Another poster on this thread brought back a wonderful memory for me:
At the time fashion underwear for men was in infancy my mother worked for Munsingwear - in the men's/boy"s underwear department: she sewed the waistbands. By working there she worked on the latest styles and colors. She also had access the factory seconds..... much cheaper even though no difference in look or fit.

Anyway it was not uncommon for her to bring home a bag of these. I was blessed with great underwear. So, I had a good source of nice, coloref underwear since 7th grade. Started wearing it since then and haven't looked back - only a couple of white. Like I said -a nice memory.
