For me it's the same thing. I actually wish they still made them. It's disappointing that there's no modern everyday brands besides maybe Jockey that are willing to take the risk and make skimpy underwear for men anymore. Feels kind of backwards that companies were more willing to be out there in the 90s/early 2000s.

But sadly I do have to agree with the general consensus. The material, especially for the thongs, is not really great quality. I wonder if that was a factor in deciding to discontinue them. I was lucky enough to get some string bikinis and thongs from Sears probably right around the time that they stopped making them. Personally I think the patterns are fun, especially for the thongs, and I enjoy them more for the novelty and nostalgia factor. The string bikinis are quite comfortable, but I don't wear them much because I'm worried that the material will eventually wear out.

Figured I would post on here. It looks like Hanes is going to be phasing out the string bikinis for men. I went to Target today leaving the gym and they had one last package on clearance. No more in the regular underwear section. They are sold out currently on Target's website and Amazon isn't even listing them anymore. This is pretty disappointing. Seems like every year, underwear companies are less willing to be adventurous when it comes to men's underwear. The quality of the string bikinis wasn't amazing but it was always nice to have an option. The only similar option I've seen from big box retail stores are the U.S. Polo Assn's string bikini, but not the biggest fan of their waistband.

That really is disappointing that Hanes has quit making their string bikinis. I have some that I bought at Walmart a few years back. I still wear them when I'm not in a thong. The back is a little big but overall they are not bad underwear. And it was a great starter for any man that wanted to try the style. Both Walmart and Target's underwear selection is pretty dismal these days. The stores near me used to carry the Hanes string bikinis and a regular cut bikini brief. The last time I looked at Target's underwear it was mostly the Den of Thieves brand and nothing they offered was exciting to me.

I really love Hanes string bikinis. I discovered them a few years ago and I bought tons on target. Now they’re discontinued but I love how they look in the front and how they hold everything in place no matter what. I also like how they cup my butt cheeks and also the way they sit on my waist.

Yeah they are great. I like them about the same as the Jockey ones that they used to sell at Walmart, but the Hanes ones feel like they're made of a more durable material

Question for any of us who have taken the plunge and overpaid for vintage items on eBay. Have you found the elastic is still usable? I’m considering buying a vintage pair still in original package. But I wonder if it will just fall apart when I try it on?

Last year I bought 12 pairs of Tangas( string bikini) briefs from eBay which were vintage 1988 new unused.
The elastic etc on those was perfectly fine, and with several washes and wears a year later, are just fine.
They were only relatively cheap department store Tangas from British Home Stores in UK, but survived the 35 plus years very well. These were really all I wore through to 1993 when I discovered that they sold these in a thong also. I’m one of those that instantly got the comfort of the thong, and has since been my number one preference.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on some vintage jockey bikinis, still in the tube from 1985. I’m very excited to receive.

I have bought some in the past year. Not bikinis or thongs, but I bought some white briefs with a design that I really liked growing up that isn't made or sold anymore. They were no longer in their original packaging. The briefs were still in great condition from what I could tell, waistband included. However, I don't consider these everyday wear. I only wear them occasionally at home to try and last as much as possible. I do the same thing with some of the older pairs of underwear that I still really like.
