When did you know you liked bikinis?
Re: When did you know you liked bikinis?
I don’t ever remember not liking bikinis. As far back as I can remember I was sporting a Speedo style suit for all my beach and pool time. I grew up in a beach town and spent most of my days on the beach. Even when everyone else was wearing much more conservative swimwear I was pushing the boundaries for ever more revealing styles without being obscene or indecent. I didn’t start wearing bikini style underwear until I was 14 yrs old. Up to that point my mother had been responsible for all my clothing purchases. At 14 I started working and making my own money. I remember seeing bikini style underwear in Kmart and Sears, before they disappeared. As a result I bought my first three pack and never looked back. My mother was none too happy with my underwear choices back then, but I I didn’t care. I knew it was right for me. Then like magic (a few years later) bikini style underwear and swimwear disappeared from all the stores around me. Now I was left with searching the internet for my chosen style. By now I had a girlfriend the introduced me to thongs. She loved them and soon so did I. For a long time I would wear thongs only occasionally and bikinis as my daily choice. That slowly changed to being thongs daily and bikinis occasionally. I’ve always enjoyed the freedom of movement and the fit of bikinis and thongs. Also less material means less bunching up and feeling more cool and comfortable in warmer weather.

Yeah, the high school locker room starting in 9th grade was the great portal! I remembered gym class when I first took my jeans off as a freshman and I was wearing BRIGHT RED FOTL string bikinis and I was (I think!) the only one at that point NOT in tighty-whities. I like to think I was a trailblazer, because there were more as high school went on...or at least, some braver souls.

what year was this? I assume 80s or 90s since tws have not been the norm since the early 2000sPennbikini wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 3:02 pm Yeah, the high school locker room starting in 9th grade was the great portal! Yes, it would have been late 80s/early 90s! By my sophomore year, I was not the only one, and then by junior and senior year, the bikini wearers were around 25-30% of the locker room.

I guess I never knew a time that bikinis were not the top of my underwear list for daily wear. I grew up during a time bikinis were pretty much a norm, I wasn't the 'odd man out. ' I started wearing them at about 14 years old. I have never known a time where I even had a desire to wear anything else under it all, though I did try other styles. I was fortunate, too, my ex loved me wearing them and bought me them on occasion, too. Other than an occasional thong, you will not find me in anything else.

In my case, I was still wearing tighty whities because that's what my mother bought for me and I was embarrassed to ask for men's bikinis. At the time, boxer shorts were very popular and many if not most we wearing them. This was the late 90s and early 2000s.Pennbikini wrote: Mon Mar 06, 2023 3:02 pm Yeah, the high school locker room starting in 9th grade was the great portal! It's kind of ironic now that I used to think I would never wear boxers, but a few years later in the mid 2000s I began to wear them. Now I just keep my old boxers as sleepwear occasionallyand wearing more briefs (not tighty whities though) and bikinis.

It never occurred to me to wear anything other than the standard 'tighty whiteys' from Marks and Spencer and the like. Then, in my first job and a new city to live in on my own, I was walking past an 'alternative' type shop and saw a pair of lemon colour nylon bikini panties with a flowery pattern on them, in the window. I didn't know whether they were for girls or boys, but knew I wanted to wear them. It took me a few days to pluck up the courage to go into the shop to buy them. They had pink ones as well as yellow. Loved wearing them, and never looked back!

I knew when I was 11 or 12 (late 1960s/early 1970s).....I'd see guys in Speedos and in bikini underwear in the Sears catalog as well and I thought they were so hot! I joined a swim team when I was in 7th grade and finally got to wear Speedos--the ones with the short sides (not jammers)...they were awesome! I've been wearing those or something similar (and skimpier) ever since then! I got into wearing skimpy bikini underwear when I was in 9th grade...one of my best friends got me into that...and gradually progressed to wearing jockstraps and then thongs...but I still love bikini undies!
Re: When did you know you liked bikinis?
I remember seeing a few movies or magazine advertisements with men wearing skimpy undies - I wondered what they felt like. I remember seeing the Jockey Elance bikini at JCPenney, the original good ones that came in the tube, but was to nervous to ask for them. Then back to school shopping at K-Mart, mid-90s and I was 13. I saw a package of animal print string bikinis - brut or Hanes, can't remember. I asked my mom if I could get some to try - well they were awesome for a middle school kid. From there I got a few more packs then later graduated to thongs, but I bought those, my parents never knew about them.

I knew I liked bikinis when I was in 7th grade....was on the swim team through middle school and that's what all the guys wore back then (early 1970s)--jammers hadn't been invented yet. I loved how they fit and how they looked and I loved the tan line I would get....they were such a great change from board shorts and regular swim trunks!
